Nerve injury
« on: September 13, 2021, 06:36:34 PM »

What is nerve injury? What are the consequences of it? Why does it happen? How serious is it? Does it cripple you?

I was reading about someone called android.

In the context of LL, there are 2 causes of nerve injury.

1) Procedural error: Cheap surgeons who have inadequate training and equipment, often cannot judge their incision well. There are cases where surgeons accidently severe or damage muscles and nerves. This type of nerve injury is very difficult to recover from and often lead to some permanent deformity. However, this risk can be almost completely mitigated by choosing a reputable surgeon, not cheap ones from India and Turkey.

2) Lengthening too quickly: Some individuals can have rapid bone formation. This results in pre-consolidation, which often leads to the surgeon advising faster than acceptable lengthening schedule. I've seen anywhere between 1.2mm-2mm a day. This results in extreme nerve pain and can result in nerve damage. Luckily for most people, our bones don't consolidate faster than 0.25mm a day. However, while lengthening too fast can lead to nerve damage, we can usually recover from this.

Risks are mostly avoidable if you have a good surgeon though, a bad surgeon will literally cripple you so I wouldn't go cheap on this.. health is more important than $.

Unicorn have gone to Guichet, one of the most expensive LL doctors in the world.
So don't say bs about being crippled because she cheaped out. She went to one of the most reputable and expensive doctors back then. But unfortunately he turned out as a moneyhungry butcher.

So wait. She lengthened 4 inches in one segment? Or was it cross lengthening?

It looks like she lengthened 7 cm in her left leg and her right leg "collapsed" ?? her right leg broke 3 times and didn't grow... idk what doctor she had but damn that's rough.

So that's cross lengthening ,isn't it? Also for some reason women face more complications in LL.

Although don't say that to feminists who think "gender is a social construct" and "men and women are equal"lolll

I think she accidentally broke that leg 3 times which sucks...  cross lengthening is when you break your right femur and break your left tibia then when they heal you break your left femur and your right tibia.  xD ya maybe females might have a harder time with this surgery and they usually have longer legs so they'd look even more disproportionate.

Oh. Let's just hope it doesn't happen to us. Why do you think it happened to her? Early weight bearing?

her bones didnt fuse. this whole procedure left her financially ruined for the rest of her life.
if something goes wrong you re fuked with LL. doctors try to market it as a small and quick procedure.
get surgery, lengthen for a couple months and heres your new height. its not like that.

Her bones didnt fuse? Isn't that fixable by a simple bone grafting procedure?

She did do a bone graft at the end from her hip, which cured her. The bone however was very thin and grew slowly.

I think there're many confusions here about Guichet. The Indian kid who died was entirely his own fault, for not taking the prescribed blood thinner.

As for Unicorn, both were culpable. Guichet misdiagnosed pre-consolidation and asked her to click fast, but she ignored his advice to not lengthen so much. She lengthened 4 inches for someone who was in the low 5'. She was also not weightbearing as advised. You absolutely need to walk with crutches as much as possible during LL to stimulate bone growth. Combined with the fact that old women have the poorest bone growth of any group, it is not surprising that she had non-union.

Regardless, I wouldn't advocate for Guichet either. He is too expensive for his reputation. I'd go still go with Giotikas if you want weightbearing. Betz has no aftercare and doesn't do ITB release which will slow your recovery.

Oh. I don't think I as a 22 year old guy need to worry about it, do I? I don't smoke, don't drink, never did drugs, have a healthy lifestyle. I don't think I'd have nonunion. Girls should probably stay away from this surgery

I got 10cm on femur, and while my femurs look long, no one noticed. They just remark that I have long legs.

It is much healthier to go 10cm with your femurs than, 11-12 on 2 surgeries. You're doubling your cost, recovery time and surgical risks with 2 surgeries.

She didn't broke anything accidentally.
That butcher Guichet put her a much bigger nail than her bone could accept and that ended to a non union, infections after a second surgery (to change the nail) and many horrible.things.

Everything was Guichet's fault, not an accident or something.

My advice is stay away from moneyhungry doctors and butchers.
The healthiest person you could be but if a doctor make faults in your surgery then it doesn't matter at all.

So my most important advice to any future LLer is to choose his doctor wisely.
