Is tibias or femurs easier for 6cm of lengthening?
« on: June 01, 2021, 09:43:08 AM »

As per topic. For patients who had done both, which one hurt more? Tibias or femurs? Are you less handicapped on tibias compared to femurs? Which one has better recovery time?

The popular consensus is that tibias hurt less than femurs, and you're more mobile and comfortable throughout the procedure.

However idiots (such as myself) did femurs hoping for more cms. Remember, successful limb lengthening is 99% physical therapy. If you don't stretch and work out, you will screw yourself over after the treatment.

Whats the difference between doing tibia and femurs, besides the tibia being easier?

If I’m right the safe limit for tibia is 5cm. And for femurs it’s 8cm. So doing 6cm in femurs seems abit foolish ???

Just because the safe limit is 8 doesn’t mean 6 isn’t better. It’s faster recovery and less toll on your soft tissue

You are not an idiot for choosing femurs. The bones will heal faster and much less can go wrong (ie fibular complications, calf and acheilles contracture etc). You will feel better in a couple weeks.

External tibias is better than external femurs. And internal femur is better than internal tibias

External tibias is safer, cheaper and much less painful but you have some fixators for many months.

Internal femurs is invisible and more comfortable, with relatively faster rehabilitation but more painful and way more expensive.

Finally, internal tibias has no benefits compared to internal femurs except from maybe a better aesthetic result as most of the times tibia LL looks better than femur one. But nothing else.

So the choice is between external tibias or internal femurs. If I wanted to do one LL only I would again do external tibias without a second thought.

External tibias are safer than internal femurs?

Can the external  scars be completely wiped out with assistance of lazer removal? Or are then deep keloid?
