People who were really in shape then lost it have better results, because their soft tissue is stretched from mass gain already. Non smokers is a huge factor, age is a big factor you will heal faster at 20 than you will at 30-40-50, you can still do ll but recovery is faster.

I believe weight is a big factor, I was walking 1 week unassisted post surgery I weight about 125-130

can't agree more. Do you think LL patients can undergo this surgery all alone or is it a whole world better to have someone by your side from the begining to an end, like full time care taker helping with physical needs and mental fortitude.

Doing this by yourself, especially for the first two weeks, is extremely brutal. I would never do this again without somebody with me.

It’s really nice to have people to support you. I was fortunate enough to have family friends who hosted me in Florida for 3 months while I was getting this done. It was nice to have home cooked meals and even go out for drinks while lengthening.

u don't need anyone at all if you are doing this for yourself - u can still meet people and go out for meals or walks - either in clinic gerunds or out and about - u can embrace the journey in a wider sense than simply lengthening...

going alone you will be forced to concentrate on the reason you are there - ie a successful lengthening

also you may not want others to know etc  :)

Apologies for the rudeness. If somebody says they are struggling or hurt, do not say "it is ok, chill out"

It is very brutal if your doing external femurs like us, even tibias. If you’re doing internal methods it’s a walk in the park compared to us, sadly most people are not loaded with money and have to settle for externals, but external tibias is way less painful, regardless what you do it is always better to have someone around. Even though I can get things done myself like going to shower or restroom without any help, the risk I might fall or something is low but something to worry about. Also some days you feel okay then some days you have a lot of pain in one area and it’s hard to get certain tasks done

again that is ur view - and that would depend on ur definition of brutal - living with a mental condition is also 'brutal' - it is all down to attitude etc - the point i was making is that u can do this alone with the right motivation etc and nurses are around to help - the scaremongering does not help anyone at all - it was more for the benefit of others who may be considering this procedure - being told to ....is also brutal!! - reflecting the immaturity of some who proceed with this procedure - they are more likely to find the procedure brutal!

stop denying other people's experience.

it is a medically certified procedure - if done correctly there is minimal danger - the procedure sounds more 'brutal' than it is scientifically/medically etc

you are more than entitled to ur view/experience - that is exactly what it is - it does not follow that 'everyone' will find the process brutal - that is all i am saying  :)

of course, people can surely do this alone, hundreds have done it for years now, men, women, children regardless of age and gender. However, if you opt for LON or LATN, whether it's tibias or femur, the first week or even the first 15 days is going to be extremely difficult mentally and physically. My experience first-7 day was awful, I could not do anything by myself, my knees were stiff, swelling like balloons, if I tried to move my legs too much, they would screamed in pain. I still managed to stand on the 3rd day and walked like a cripple on the 4th day, however, if I wanna do personal hygiene like brushing my teeth, washing my face, my body won't be able to rest peacefully. So, without the help of someone, it's just impossible to do those things. Attitude or motivation won't help in this case because your body is just too weak to do those things. Of course, you can just lay there and eat and rest and take bowel movement on bed but not for me lol, i want to keep the same routine like when my legs were normal. Therefore, caretake is extremely important, I would no way do this alone

Awesome, I wish I have a support system like you. I had to pay for full-time caretaker and a rent, he's my friend he quit his job to take care of me for 4 months

well u state 100's have done it this alone for years, men and women and - INCLUDING CHILDREN!! - exactly my point - i very much doubt ur knees were swelling like balloons - and you have just broken ur legs - so you have to expect pain!!

if u can lay down and eat you can also brush ur teeth and wash ur face from the bed if you have too!! - i have already stated that a nurse or fellow patient may be around to help and of course it is difficult the first three days or so - but motivation and attitude are everything in this procedure - ask any doctor -

i am sure you would have walked the first few days if your life depended on it  :) and 15 days is way too long to still be struggling

the first few days are more a mental question of whether you have done the right thing in voluntarily breaking ur legs...

the doctor will make a psychological assessment before the procedure - to ascertain if the patient has the required mental strength/awareness to successfully follow due process - and doctor's instructions - attitude, like everything in life is everything - it doesn't stop just because u are wearing frames!!

many patients are not prepared for the surgery - they get a shock and then realise they have to work at recovery!! basics man... :)

People who were really in shape then lost it have better results, because their soft tissue is stretched from mass gain already. Non smokers is a huge factor, age is a big factor you will heal faster at 20 than you will at 30-40-50, you can still do ll but recovery is faster.

I believe weight is a big factor, I was walking 1 week unassisted post surgery I weight about 125-130

look at this perfect example - walking unassisted one week after surgery    !!!!

can't be brutal then surely!!  :)

lol, your ego is through the roof, I posted this to have a civil conversation with the forum users to kill my time. Engaging with fellow LL patients is fun during this lockdown since I have been at home for the past 2 months. Here are some footage taken when I was in the hospital and doing physical therapy at home

https://drive.google.com/drive/u/3/folders/119R422IUR-ZpVf7V_H_K7Jh4P5I6qlaq

Day 73th now and never skip exercising a single day, still remain walking ability since day 2nd
doing pull up everyday 40-6- reps everyday
lifting light weight upper body 3 times per week
talking about being discipline and mental fortitude lol

so what? on day 10th I also walked unassisted and it was quite painful but what is the point of walking unassisted at the early stage of this long journey, to prove to whom? are you stupid? My doctor doesn't advise me to walk without the walker  because simply it's not safe so I would rather listen to him and preserve the integrity of the metal rods, last thing people would want to happen is getting back to the op-room before the end of distraction phase. I'm trying to prove my point that a caretaker is important, he/she would make your life so easier through this journey even you CAN do it yourself but why don't make your life easier to have someone on your side and help you through this.

not sure what u mean by ego being through the roof - no need to get personal with adhominen attacks - why not answer the basic points raised?

children can do it - but not me!!!

above you state attitude or motivation won't help - you can't have it both ways!!

this is a perfectly civil conversation - prospective patients can assess for themselves what mindset to develop  :)

with this much confidence, I assume you have done the surgery yourself easy AF.  With how much you repeated about mental toughness, I also assume you are 6'5 300pounds well built. therefore, I would like to learn something from your personal experience, a motivational speech or some secret exercises so they can ease my pain to 0 and help sprint right after removing my frames

Why are you trying to deny other's people experience lol. I would like to hear a story from your LL experience first 7 days. Keep in mind, everyone has different pain med protocols, it depends on the doctor, idk if mine was mild or intense but the first week was hurt like hell and no way I could be comfortable being alone. That's how I felt, and for most people as well

u see all i emphasised was the importance of mental attitude in this process

i was in russia

would u believe two patients were advised by the doctors to stop lengthening tibias at 7cm and took away their turning implement - they went to the hardware store, bought a spanner and continued to lengthen to 11cm by themselves  - they were crippled but the doctor's still tried to help them - mental instability etc
other patients would not walk and stayed in bed

none of my posts are offensive

i have endured height neurosis all of my adult life - i would not wish it on anyone - and if i can help anyone resolve related height issues then that is why i post

we should not discourage those who genuinely feel the surgery will enhance their life - by making unsubstantiated claims or scaremongering etc - or claiming it to be brutal when, as you have said, children routinely undergo this process etc

it's up to u if you want to get personal or sarcastic - it further invalidates ur argument  :)
