Since stryde is not coming back for 2 years I am thinking about doing precise 4 + 4 with 1 year gap.

4cm lengthening would be 40 days of distraction assuming you go at the rate of 1mm/day and don't slow down for any reason and your bone is regenerating well. Then you'd probably need to wait at least another month, potentially 6 weeks, to be able to start partially weight-bearing using a walker during your consolidation. Then maybe another couple of weeks before you can walk unassisted. So maybe 3-4 months before you can start walking unassisted would be my guess.

It also depends which nail you get - the 10.5mm nail allows for max 50lbs of weight bearing on each leg; the larger size (i forgot the diameter) allows for max 70lbs on each leg. If you weigh less than the weight-bearing limit of the nail, I think you might be able to be partially weight-bearing earlier in the process.

It depends on your weight, but some people (like myself) go straight to walker.  (I did Precice 2 in femurs.)

I would advise getting out of the wheelchair as soon as possible, it's better for you, physically and psychologically.

Hi FormerKidd, it took you how much of time to walk unaided?

I was using walker from Day 1.Now I am consolidating and expecting unaided walk in 4-5 weeks.

I was told by my doctor that I wouldn't need a wheelchair and would be using a walker until I can walk on my own.

When you use a walker, did you ever put more weight on your leg more than the weight limit accidentally?

I am very much concerned that I might put more weight and end up bending the nail.

@rjake: It’s actually hard to put too much weight on your legs, if you are putting the majority of your weight on the walker. I was scared of this at first, but I weighed each step on a scale, and I think on average I was at around 35 pounds of actual weight per leg.

Isn't the 35 pounds exactly at the tolerance limit? What was your weight if I may ask?

No idea, Giotikas says we should have an update for the end of this month. I have my surgery booked for late August, but I don't know if it will be possible. It's crazy, it's available everywhere else but here.
