Consolidation phase
« on: March 04, 2021, 07:13:05 PM »

Hello guys,

as i read from the patient diaries and on internet, its said that consolidation phase takes about 1,5-2 months for adults, which means 7,5-10 months for 5cm.
On the other hand its often recommended to walk with a walker in first 6 weeks and said that healing takes 6 weeks and it doesnt depend on how many cms. (Btw im talking about LON, which theoretically allows to walk with full weight bearing during consolidation)
Theres a big time gap between 7,5 months and 6 weeks. So i wonder what actually happens at the 6th week and why the first 6 weeks are so important?

Thanks in advance for the replies

With LON considering it is fully weight bearing you can walk whenever you feel like it. Usually like a month after frame removal is the general timeframe I see with patients around me.

Is that only for Femur? Or can they walk unaided one month after frame removal of tibia?

Have you seen any tibia patients? I want to understand when they can start walking.

Do you mean that with LON, 1 month after frame removal the patients are walking like normal or very close to normal?

Hmmm you can walk with crutches 3 week after the operation, but you will need to wait before walking without nothing normally. It will takes you 1-2 months after the removal of the device to be able to walk like a normal person. So it’s like 4-5 month after surgery!

Yes. LON is fully weight bearing. 1 month post frame removal many are walking and some are not. If you focus hard on physio then you will walk.

Will injecting HGH speed up the process?

I do not think my doctor does this but then again I have good bone healing so I would not know.
