Is Precice 2 still available?
« on: January 31, 2021, 09:31:42 AM »

Hey guys, I have my Stryde surgery booked for July 7th. Giotikas says that all the issues with Stryde will be solved by May, and Nuvasive says that they will probably be solved before summer. However, this is not 100% guaranteed. I have no issues delaying the surgery a few months, but if I don't do it (at worst) in September, I would not be able to do it this year. My question is, in the worst case scenario,  would Precice 2 be available? I have seen contradictory reports. The Nuvasive document says ALL precice devices are on hold. However, some doctors say that Precice 2 is available. Does anyone know?

Thanks

What would be the difference in recovery times between Precice 2 and Stryde?

Precice is not weighbearing, so you have to be on crutches until there is enough consolidation. With Stryde, you are walking even in lenghthening phase. Stryde has quicker recovery and is definitely the best choice, I only want to be ready for the worst case scenario: Stryde not being available in summer.

Cool.. It would make the process far easier but in terms of surgical outcome/complications, it should not affect much right?

Taking into account that you don't walk for a long time, you may have muscle atrophy issues with Precice 2, even thougt they will be solved in the long run. The difference is time mostly: you may have a "regular" life in 4 months with STRYDE, and 7 months with Precice

That depends on what you define as "regular". With Stryde you should be able to do almost all your daily tasks a month or two after surgery. But I still think most people will have some issues with walking normally even 4 months after surgery. Not everyone is SNC lol.

Yes of course, I was just trying to say that Precice takes way longer than Stryde. Anyway, worst case scenario, I'd take it if it is available

The reason I ask is I believe in Dr. Parihar more than any other doctor in the East.. My research about other doctors is pretty small...Not sure whether to go to Dr Lee or Dr Giotikas..

Listen here's my take... In a world where stryde exists, 99 out of 100 times I would do anything to do stryde over precice.. even if it means significantly delaying my surgery

My surgery is in July, and Giotikas says I will have Stryde by then. If he's wrong, I can wait until september... If not, I would take Precice. Of course Stryde is better, but I really can't wait another year man, too many years not living because of height dysphoria. Anyway, are we 100% certain Precice is still available?

The benefits of weightbearing are not to be taken lightly. From all indicators of previous patients with precise vs. stryde, overall the process seems so much easier: less muscle atrophy, faster bone growth, lessened delay on life/work, etc.

As cost is typically the most prohibitive aspect of this surgery, the concept of being able to return to work sooner is not to be taken lightly.

That is a good point Vibes..returning to work early is crucial even though the results could be the same with both..

Luckily I work online, and my girlfriend is coming with me as well. Of course, Stryde is much better, I just hope we have some certainty soon

It sucks, but it seems like you really don't want to wait another year. I think you should go for it then and I wish you best luck giotikas.i don't think you're making a mistake either- just a choice. And yeah you got a lucky girl take care of you. 😍

Well, Giotikas told me today again that they are confident the issue should be solved before July so... let's hope he is right.
