People who have done LL, X-Ray or CT Scan Pre-Op?
« on: December 31, 2020, 03:46:45 PM »

When consulting different doctors, I get a variety of different requests for bone pictures.
For example, Parihar insists that a CT Scan is an absolute necessity because regular x-rays don't have magnification markers and the measurements can be inaccurate. Many other doctors, however, insisted that regular X-ray AP/Lateral view is just fine and a CT scan is not necessary.

For those of you who have done LL or in the process of doing LL, did you send a CT Scan before the operation or did you send an X-ray?
Does it really matter?

Xray only
I think CT is way too much.

Xray only

When you first got it, did you tell them anything specific? Like did you mention this was for LL or that measurement is important etc?

Doing internals it's important because the doctor can see how wide is the intramedullary canal and check which nail you can fit. In addition he can see if you have any deformity and stuff like that. I've been asked to stick a coin on the skin to have a comparison.

I think some doctors like Donghoon and Paley have 3D EOS scans at their centers. In the absence of such facilities, CT scan might be a replacement(?) CT scans given a detailed cross sectional view of the bones. It's high radiation and I don't think they cover your private parts during it because it might come in the way of the scan. So just get it once at a good center.

Btw I read in Penguinn's diary that his bone was not healing well after months, so Dr. Parihar made him do a CT scan to take a closer look at what's going on.

You are correct--some top doctors have an EOS scan but otherwise you just need xrays, luckily.

A top doctor like Giotikas doesn't ask for a CT scan? Isn't this strange to anyone?

I thought it was weird. He did told me that he prefered if I went to Greece instead of doing an online appointment, but I couldn't because of restrictions. He said then that the X rays etc are done the days before the surgery, once I'm there in Greece
