Wow!!!! Thanks for the really thorough post

What are the main differences in the popular apps for taxis/uber in Mumbai? And the popular apps in Mumbai for groceries compared to America or other places?

for taxi: Uber, Ola
for grocery and any pick up drop: dunzo, swiggy
for grocery: big basket, amazon fresh
for food: swiggy, zomato, cure fit (for protein rich healty food - it's mainly for people who are into body building)
for all other stuff like toilet seat stand, nerve simulation devices, and any other thing you need during lengthening - amazon

I am also confused between giotikas, dr lee, and Parihar. I personally think dr lee is the most capable but Parihar is the cheapest.

Hey Gman, will you go with Parihar? Assuming one wears mask/gloves/face mask, avoids certain foods, and gets stomach virus immunization beforehand to avoid illnesses, it seems like a good way to save 12k$ or 24k$ and live in a hotel.

I'm considering it, the dirtiness doesn't sound so bad if I can bring an occulus quest 2 and escape into virtual reality in a hotel

Lol yes I am considering Dr Parihar as first option since his an Indian surgeon, and I am Indian too, and my dreams to become the best Chef I can be and learning Indian cuisine is important too so I’ll go get the surgery done in India as a holiday and explore India too. Dr Parihar is a great Surgeon as we all know, being able to speak in Hindi/ Indian native language is an extra boost for me so I’m thinking of him as an option first.

What about you ??

Thanks!!!!!!

1."nerve simulation devices"
What are examples of this that LL patients use and what is their benefit?

2. I think if you are familiar with Mumbai, then going with Parihar has some huge benefits/is logistically much easier and also much cheaper? And won't have to worry about getting diseases as much as some western people who are not used to Mumbai

I haven't been to India but I was born in a third-world country with low hygiene standards as well, and I have travelled/eaten in many non-hygienic places.
It is a gamble, you could either live 1 year and never get sick, or get there 1 day and get sick. The best thing that could happen would be to get sick when you first arrive, so your body gets used to it.
Additionally, if you come from a first world country, just acknowledge that things are very different in India and their immune systems are stronger as well.
For example, if you eat veggies, you should ask people to wash them with bottled water or you might get sick (or never eat veggies).
Some bacteria could be everywhere and could be found even in a "clean" restaurant.
Your body might not be used to the spices, or how they prepare food.
The food quality might not be that good....

There are many factors. If I was going to do LL in India, I would be there 1-2 weeks before just to get used to the place and see how things work, for I would do the same if I go back to my country. This is not needed of course, but you will be having a life changing surgery and I would try to make my life easier during my stay.

I may go with Parihar esp if the Euro continues to get stronger relative to the dollar after I get a covid vaccination + other vaccinations maybe

Tell us how it goes w/ Parihar in a diary someday :)

Are you thinking of going w/ Parihar? That 12k$+ saved money looks very tempting to me esp b/c I want to do both internal femurs and tibias so it would double + savings from cheaper cost of living + people at hotel to help you

I traveled to different cities in India for couple of months and I was careful with eating, hygiene, bottled water and stayed at high end hotels. I got the bacteria infection in my stomach and had to make several visits to a local gastrologist in USA to get rid of it. Disadvantage with doing the surgery in India is taking a risk to get sick.

You can get a stomach infection in the US also. It doesn't mean anything. Also, a stomach infection is not a big deal. Stop worrying about stomach infection limb lengthening is way more dangerous than a f**king stomach infection.

Hey Indian, what are your thoughts on getting nerve decompression during the first surgery w/ Parihar?

I heard Dr. Janet Conway does this, and I am wondering if it is worth the price

Yeah idk man 3-4 people in this forum said they got sick so far I think. Do you think wearing face mask/face shield/gloves everywhere except inside a hotel would be good? Or a waste b/c could just get sick from inside your hotel room?

Wearing a mask will prevent you from getting cold or flu. Don't worry about stomach infection at all. Even if you get it antibiotics will take care of it. You can get important vaccination for local viruses like hepatitis, rotavirus, and other stuff. Just decide your surgeon based on limb lengthening experience and not location. Dr lee has a really good center for rehab with stuff like swimex. Parihar and Giotikas don't have that. But in Korea there is a language issue and it's very expensive.

or you can visit India for a vacation for like 1-2 weeks eat food and stuff and see for yourself and come back to get the actual surgery later. In this case, even if you get sick it won't be a problem.

Yeah hmm...

I think an issue is like getting a disease on top of LL just sounds scary. Like its an unknown, would getting a stomach virus or malaria on top of lengthening be too much for the body? Would it affect someone's recovery? End up in a hospital in Mumbai for another disease? Although it may not sound like much it still seems like an unknown that is hard to quantify

Probably should be okay though, hoping to see more Mumbai diaries

And I have to think people from Mumbai are thinking "huh what the fk its fine here I've been here all my life"

I guess some people are not used to the Indian spices 🤦🏽‍♂️😂😂...
There are decent, high end restaurants in India too, just more expensive. Mc Donald, KFc everything is there... and high end hotels like Marriott ...

If you have a doctor you already go to, you should ask to be prescribed an anti-malarial medication. I had to take 3 meds before I entered India:

http://www.limblengtheningforum.com/index.php?topic=634.msg11259#msg11259

You could try consuming probiotics regularly for a bit before entering India. May reduce your risk of getting stomach problems.

Malaria!!! You could die from this! Is it very common in India? Do they have a lot of mosquitos or stagnant waters there?

There is a season of malaria (June through Sept). Just don't go in during that time and you'll be fine.

What are the possible downsides (not only for Americans but for people in general) of going to India instead of Greece? Suffering from a potential malaria disease.
Guys what are you even talking about? You are comparing a European first world country to India. Not that I don't like India or its people but you simply cannot compare these countries to each other. If you can go to Greece then go to Greece. I'd also rather choose West Palm Beach over Athens from a rational standpoint.
But maybe I am just overreacting bc I'm European and life, hygiene, Covid-control (hahah it's  ty everywhere) and surgeon skills are as good as in Greece.

This might be subjective, but I recently had a chat with an indian friend, who told me that if he had the choice (he is extremelly wealthy) he would go to India. Why? The dream of most Indians is to be doctors, and within doctors, they study extremelly hard to be where they are.

If you have money, you could live in India living like you would in a first-world country, and most people exagerate when they say it is that bad (I am slightly biased as I am from a third-world country as well). You could stay at a 5-star hotel, order from top-restaurants, etc...

From what I see in the news, just a few countries have good COVID policies, so it doesn't matter if I go to the US, Greece, India, UK... they are all bad if I compare it where I am living now (Australia).

For Malaria, if you live in the city you will not find it. This is usually found in rural/excluded areas and you will know and be advised where it will be

In my case, I have chosen Greece as I see the appeal of living in Greece for some months (I will be working remotely from there), but if I chose to go to India, I would not be that scared, I would just be prepare for the country, e.g. research food (this will be a shock if you don't eat it), what to do, where to live... etc... and because I think I would be more comfortable in Greece, and I am planning on doing stryde and Giotikas has more cosmetic cases using this device.

Tell us how it goes with Giotikas in a diary, I'm really curious about the PT and its neighborhood/finding a good place to stay in Athens, I've heard certain not so great things about the PT itself. I heard he switched PT places at one point

In my opinion:

Paley or US docs > Dr. Lee (he does a ton of lengthening) > Dr. Giotikas (because he does more cosmetic cases than Parihar) > Dr. Parihar

But stryde with parihar is better than lon or externals with any other doc.

Now if you can only afford Parihar then don't waste your time comparing India with Greece or the USA. Greece will be a lot more expensive than India(surgery, food, complications/additional operations cost, rent, visa fee, travel, helper, medicines, etc.). It's not just a 15k difference. it's more than that especially if you get any complications and need additional surgeries.

white supremacy at it's best

Oh come on. It's not white supremacy to prefer a country with a higher Human Development Index over a country with a lower one. My second point is that Giotikas is actually cheaper, isn't he? If not, then I'll take that one back ofc.
I've also been to many EE countries and have seen the hygiene standards there, so if the standards in India are the same or lower it's a no brainer in my view.
It's not white supremacy to try to optimize the circumstances/conditions under which one wants to undergo the most risky cosmetic surgery in the world. I am not stating that any developing countries are bad in itself. Colonialism and Imperialism, which have been undeniably practiced by Europeans, have taken their toll on the southern hemisphere and thus they are also responsible for the struggles that the people in said countries experience. But from a patient point of view I'd simply prefer the closest/most developed country in which this surgery is affordable for me.

In my opinion:

Paley or US docs > Dr. Lee (he does a ton of lengthening) > Dr. Giotikas (because he does more cosmetic cases than Parihar) > Dr. Parihar

A higher number of CLL cases doesn't mean much. CLL cases are technically easier than deformity correction and trauma cases. Dr Paley himself, who performs the most CLL cases in the USA, even says in his interview with Cyborg that any orthopedic surgeon knows how to insert a nail, and that it's technically the easiest part of the entire process for the surgeon. CLL cases just have less room for error, which is why it's important for the surgeon to have extensive experience in non-cosmetic cases before doing CLL.

Dr Paley is the only one on that list who has Dr Parihar beat in terms of experience. Dr Parihar in 1991 was Dr Paley's 2nd ever clinical research fellow. Dr Lee didn't do his residency with Paley until 2010, and Dr Giotikas's first year as consultant orthopedic surgeon for the Greek army was in 2009, meaning Dr Parihar has approximately 20 years of experience over either of them. So yeah, Parihar has the fewest cosmetic patients because of his selectiveness, but he has the most years of treating the more complicated issues like deformities and traumas.

There is something I don't really understand though- I think someone in this thread said he was careful w/ food and cleanliness, was in 5 star hotels but still got stomach virus in Mumbai.

I wonder what foods in Mumbai will seem safe to consume but will not actually be safe to consume for newcomers? I imagine that is how it happened for the people on this forum who got sick, what do you think it most likely was?

How did he know it was a stomach virus and not a bacterial infection? I have never heard of the Stomach virus in adults. Even if you get the virus it'll go by itself in 1 week it's not a big deal. I've never got any stomach virus infection and I lived in India for the better part of my life.
