I have told my family and close relatives about the surgery today. As expected, they were shocked, but after a longer conversation, they even offert me their help for the time after the surgery:)

Could you discuss the cost and living arrangements?

Also, I'm assuming you are getting stryde not precise?

Costs are about the same as betz for stryde (with nail removal)
I will only stay for about 1 week at the hospital after the surgery before returning home. I took of work for 3 months.
But I think I will have to return once a week to Dr Köhne for xrays in the beginning.

Hi bro ,
I hope you are doing well , why didn't have as a goal the full 8 cm on femur?

I dont feel the need for doing more and will reduce longterm risks. 178 is spot on average where I live and Dr. Koehne usually doesnt lengthen over 6cm on femur.

I think the mockup looks absolutely fantastic. If you feel that 6cm is enough for you, more power to you- you seem to be very rational about your needs and this journey. Good luck with the surgery this month.

Hi Erkan,

I wish you the best on your future surgery.

I am an advocate of getting the max out of the CLL. It's too costly and painful to be just modest about. Why not getting the full 8 cm or 7.5 (almost 3 inches) out of your femur surgery; I mean assuming the surgery goes well and your doctor also approves the max lengthening?

I understand every additional cm may exponentially add to the recovery time and also pain, but with consistent stretching exercises and a good diet, you should be able to mitigate both.

Good luck.

I think 6cm is a good target. Recovery and proportions are more favourable at 6cm.

Dr Kohne seems very good and I am sure he will guide you on what is best

Mockup look good. Doing 6cm looks like it keeps your wingspan in normal range and have read people who have recovered near 100% at that length as compared to 8cm where long term recovery is worse. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input!
Its just a feeling, that the additional 2cm wouldnt give me more satisfaction or happines and are not worth the higher risks. I do actually think, that if I were grown to 175 I probably wouldnt feel the need of doing LL. But this is very individual, and depends on where you live, how tall your family and friends are, etc.

Congrats on starting your journey with Stryde!

What do you think you will bring with you for entertainment and for comfort/to help you do various tasks?

Just an I Pad, mobile and airpods. Any suggestion?

I'm buying the Occulus Quest 2 VR headset, it will reach my place at the end of this month. I heard that burn victims use VR to distract themselves from the pain

Still looking into getting prescription lenses to attach to the VR device so I don't have to wear glasses/risk scratching the lenses

But if I get LL oneday, I don't know if the PT people will let me use it during PT :) Maybe you'll find out?

I also heard there are devices to help people put on their socks or arm grabbers, maybe worth looking into

Hi Erkan, I hope everything goes well first. I am also European and I am thinking of having surgery within the EU, would you have any suggestions from doctors you know from other countries? In Spain, France, Italy ... By the way, I also think that although the average height of some countries was higher, if it measured more than 172 cm or 170 cm, I would not have ever investigated this operation ...

Hi

Erkan is it possible for you to share your thoughts on picking Dr. Koehne for this surgery? There isn't alot of information about him. And what do you know about his track record, surgery technique etc. Kind regards and i wish you the best!

I got a call from the clinic today...they unfortunately have to postpone my surgery appointment to the end of January due to new Covid regulations. :/

Hey
I dont have any suggestion for other Doctors, but Dr Koehne seemed to be like the best choice for me, because of the following reasons:

- Stryde was a must for me
- he has 20 years of experience as an orthopedist/surgeon
- Its not that far away from my home, that helps after the surgery
- We speak the same language

Hey,

just got an information, that NuVasive doesnt ship any new Stryde Nails, because they do new internal quality control checks.
This is very bad news for anyone, who wants to do the surgery this year because nobody knows how long it will take.
My surgery is on friday and I dont know if I will get the 11,5 diameter nail because of this.
My surgeon has only 10mm in stock and doesnt know if he will get the 11,5mm.

It can take even one year. Nobody knows how long it will take. I will take the 10mm but it annoys me very much! It will make the months post op even harder :(

Hey,
Im a few hours post surgery. Im feeling good! Pain is very low. Dr Koehne told me, that he could use the 11,5mm stryde nail and everything went very well. It was a big relief. Until now Koehne was really great and was always very honest to me.

All the best, man!

I'm a Dr. Köhne Patient myself and had my surgery last summer. I'm doing well and I'm perfectly happy with my results so far.

Feel free to send me a DM anytime.
