How long does it take for LON frame removal?
« on: December 13, 2020, 08:36:20 AM »

How long does it usually take for LON frame to lengthen and to remove it after the surgery? As in removing the metal frame and walking with crutches? Thanks!

Hi, let’s see for 5 cm tibia with LON procedure following is the breakdown:
5 to 7 days post-surgery is the latency period
Then starts your lengthening, 50 cm @ .75mm/d would take about 70 days (inc. 3-4 days of rest)
Next comes the frame removal surgery, following which there’s another 5-6 day hold Up / bedrest.
Then comes the walking physiotherapy, in which you gradually learn to walk from Walker to crutches and finally independent with a little limp, with a little practice in a month or so your walk  should become normal provided there are no complications and your surgery went well. So in five months you should be able to do a proper weight bear and walk normal (minus running and jogging). running and jogging can be resumed once there is a bone bridge.

So time to frame removal - 70-80 days (but this is an average, it also depends on the bone healing if it’s slow then the doctor should advise you to slow your rate of lengthening so to avoid non union this Therefore should add more time do your frame removal). Hope this helps, forum veterans feel free to correct any flaw in the details.
