Stryde Femurs Lengthening @Dr Sarbjit Singh, Singapore
« on: October 07, 2020, 07:45:55 AM »

I chose a surgeon from Singapore, Dr Sarbjit Singh (Centre for Advanced Orthopaedics Pte Ltd) as he has a strong international reputation and experience. I did my research on internet and journals.

19yo/Male with 51kg weight and 160cm height
Was planning to do femur lengthening for 8cm with Precice Stryde to allow me from walking after operation.

Dr Singh agreed for the desired length (8cm) for my thigh bones using Precice Stryde trochanteric nails/implants after examination and xrays. He mentioned that he has to use trochanteric Precice Stryde nail as I’m below 21yo.  I was okay with his recommendations.

My surgery was done in April 2020. My progress was smooth with little pain.

Had physiotherapy sessions once a week for two months during lengthening period.

I shared some of my videos and xray images through the link listed below. Will update next month after my review and latest xrays. I hope I would see more callus formation. Currently, I'm walking without support.

Thanks for this diary Gainzone!
May I ask what are the costs involved for Dr. Sarbjit for the entire duration of your lengthening? (+ physio involved)

The implant used is the smallest nail for Precice Stryde (10mm) which can take up to 69kg. This allows me walk full weight-bear with crutches.

However, my original latest x-rays shows good callus formation. The Doctor told me it will heal in 1-2 months.

Will intend to show my video (walking) on my next visit with Dr Singh.

Will send you guys the amount I paid by private message.

Not to keep picking on Singh as I'm sure most of you know my story by now. But my left leg was also misaligned from Singh (check my old posts w/xrays)

I met another patient from Singh who did quads, and I saw their xray's as well and they also had misalignment (one leg was so much more different than the other)

And now this x ray AP view also looks to be the same issue.

Kind of weird that one leg is always so different compared to the other leg across multiple patients now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even if you feel fine, its such an expensive surgery, I still think it's better to get it done right the first time around. Fixing these kinds of issues later is such a pain and waste of time and money.

Thanks for your comments bro. So far my lengthened thighs are doing fine . I would probably consider doing my tibia but not too soon. Cheers!

Latest update @7months post-surgery.  Short video of me walking (https://imgur.com/gallery/WWkVR22?s=wa) . I take public transport daily and the gait is gradually improving. My legs strength is good  and I hope to return to light sports in early January.

The  latest x-rays (https://imgur.com/gallery/5yqpIof?s=wa) shows on my right femur healed with good callus and left femur almost healed according to doctor.

Thankfully coming to end of my journey.

Can i check if there was alot of pain after surgery and lengthening period

Most of the posts i seen in this forum , pain was a issue following surgery

How many therapy sessions did you attend to get this results

Thank you

NotSoBigBadBruin Thanks bro.
GrowTow Will pm you bro for the amount I paid
Robin I don’t have much pain after surgery. I took the pain killers only during my 4 days stay in the hospital. After discharged, the pain was so little that pain killer medication was not needed anymore.
A month after distraction, my right knee felt some tightness and couldn’t straighten fully. Dr Singh has given me some muscle/nerve relaxant and slow down the distraction. It was more to muscle tightness, not pain but eventually was fine. He also gave me a calcium and bone collagen supplements to help the bone heal faster

hi mate, during lengthening did you ever have a problem with wide legs/not being able to put your feet together? as in due to a tight IT band?

No mate, as Dr Singh released the IT bands. Abductor stretching exercises helps a lot.

I saw Dr Singh recently and took some videos to update my progress. Videos below:

I’ve been busy so I didn’t really check the forum.

I am doing fine. Able to go out shopping and dining .Started cycling and brisk walking .The surgery is a challenge but end result justifies .I feel more confident now with new height.
