Are there balance issues with just lengthening the femur?
« on: August 31, 2020, 12:58:03 PM »

I was wondering if there were issues is balancing when you have had the femur lengthened 2 to 3 inches. Like if you were doing squats with a barbell - would you fall backwards due to the increase in length? Or if you were just squatting down, does it feel natural?

Yes! That's the reason why I want to undergo 2 surgeries instead of just one!

I cannot imagine having a long af femur rest of my life. It's gonna cause a lot of problems, especially squatting kinda stuff. Running, even walking. That's why people cannot go back to their pre LL level what we call "%100 recovery".

Because if you lengthen your femurs, you gotta lengthen them tibs bro. (not necessarily, but would be better for bio-mechanics.)

The best recovery you can have is with a femur lengthening only, expecially with a moderate goal (5-6cm). This has been told by Dr. Lee and others doctors too agree.

I agree 5cm safest you go for that no prob! More you’ll have those issues. If you want to ribs year later 3/4cm
The balance issues shouldn’t be a problem loads of people have femur turn out v good.

So if you only lengthen up to 5cm you should be able to function great athletically? Can people who have only done up to 5cm on femurs confirm this?

Yes, It might be controversial but 5cm is barely even something.

But after 5cm, even 1 more cm means a lot. You can see the difference by using a mesure, just bend your knee and stick the measure at the beginning of the knee, look at 5cms then look at 7. It makes a huge difference.

My goal is to get 7cm on the femurs. Max 7.5

Every cm counts I know haha. 6cm would be good. 5cm low risk. 5-7 medium. 8 high. You could do your tibias later to add the rest. I’m sure 6cm in femur would be worth it. You really got to think what’s more important height or function

Yeah, if I do this I definitely want to be just as functional as I was before. I'm 5'6'' (167.6cm) and if I could be 5'8''(172.7 cm) I would be satisfied and happy. 5'9'' would be a dream, but I wouldn't go that far to sacrifice athleticism, balance, etc. If you have had the surgery can you confirm how much it feels like when you were normal or is there a bit of difference to your movement?

I did 9cm on my left leg, 10cm on my right.
It is definitely harder to do Squats now but not impossible. It's not as easy to keep perfect form, but it's doable.
I don't have any other balance problems.

The main problem with a long limb that goes really outside of the normal distribution of femur/tibia ratio is that you can have some health issues down the road because of it. At least that's what some academic papers point put.
This is my main reason for considering a second LL - to get my femur/tibia ratio back to a more normal state (and also to fix a leg discrepancy that could not be totally fixed in the first LL).

I think you should give it a shot to 7cm. If your body adapts well to 5, do 5.5, then 6, then 6.5, then 7. Just take your time and try to feel if your adapts it well or nah.

@brondo
heres a really good/informative vid on proportions and squat mechanics

tldw: longer femurs may be for favorable to lowbar squating

This is a pretty good video. It show exactly my problem right now with my 10cm longer femurs.
Don't get me wrong, I can still squat a lot, but it's much harder to keep proper form than it was before LL.
