I was thinking that if we straighten something bent, it logically would have to end up longer.

I was told about half an inch. It depends on your individual situation of course, if you know your degree of deformity and bone length you can do some trigonometry to figure it out. Also keep in mind the optimal alignment of the femur is tilted, vs genu varum where the femur is often straight with a tilted tibia. So you'll find that some of the height gain from correcting the tibia can be soaked up by the femur instead, reducing the overall gain.
