Thoughts on 10cm
« on: June 17, 2020, 09:22:00 PM »

I’m planning on going for Dr. Paley to do 10 cm total, 5 cm on femurs and 5 cm on tibias. What are the overall thoughts on this? I know it would be much much easier to do 8 cm on femurs and call it a day but I feel like doing both would keep overall good proportions and with Stryde it shouldn’t be extremely terrible since it’s not that many cm on each segment

If you believe getting 2cm more is worth twice the amount, then go for it. If your plan is to do cross-lengthening, then you should know that it’s riskier doing this than doing each segment separated by a year. If your plan is on doing it one year apart, then I would suggest you doing 8-6 cm on femur, so that the money spent is worth it.

Go for 8cm on the femurs first. You'll probably find that that's enough for you.

Sounds like a fantastic plan.  It's what I would have done exactly if I'd had the money.

I'd advice similarly to the previous. I'd say try 8 cm on femurs first and see how you feel, If you want to proceed for more then go again 6 months after at least, you might find how invasive the surgery is in the femurs itself and probably won't want to do tibias which is even slightly more invasive.

One of the other doctors at the Paley Institute advised me to do femurs first, and come back later if I wanted more.  He said most patients were more than happy with what they got from just that one surgery.

Frankly, I'm glad I did -- doing both segments at the same time is a little harder and more painful, and a lot of people stop short of their goals simply because their muscles have trouble keeping up.  If you really want to do a lot, you should probably space out the surgeries.
