Changed my mind about getting LL surgery.
« on: May 30, 2020, 08:00:35 PM »

I'm an 18 year old who is 5'9 who lives in the Netherlands, and y'all changed my mind about LL thanks to all the horror stories and stuff. I'm glad I can look back on posts that we're dated back in 2014 and even earlier. 5'9 isnt so bad compared to people who are 5'5, not that 5'9 is the same as 6'0 but you get what I'm trying to say. So thank y'all for this!

Hey V,

I would strongly consider that the advances in technology are somewhat exponential. What wasn't even feasible a couple of years ago, is now essentially magic. Albeit costly. I, like you, have been scouring these forums. I would urge you to consider Stryde-diearies in isolation to the other diaries, as it seems as though the outcomes are very skewed compared to the people getting external surgery done in places such as Russian and India. Also consider the lengths (Excuse the pun) that the horror stories come from, which are almost always 6cm+ for people who really can't withstand it.

Just my 0.02, best of luck!

I've read alot of diaries about LL, what fascinates me is how blinded people get because they see that there is a way to not be 'short' anymore but they dont realise the repurcussions sadly...

I would never encourage someone to get LL. Glad that you changed your mind. It's a personal choice, and I highly respect you for accepting yourself. It's a good mentality to be thankful for what you have, I'm thankful I wasn't born with a missing limb or down syndrome but rather completely healthy with the only thing "different" is being short- which I'd rather have over some major actual physical complication.

Yeah, good decision.  Although LL improved my life, I wish I could've been mentally strong enough to start living my life without it.

It's a good mentality to be thankful for what you have,
I am not agree.

Thankful? I will never give thanks for something that I don't like (such a short body). Other people have a good body, me not.
Also, I cannot give thanks, because nobody gave me my body.

Disliking your own body is not mental illness, it's just that you prefer to be taller.
Are tall people who like to be tall mental illness? Why do you say that of people who are short and like to be tall?

Having your own tastes is not mental illness, adapting your body to them is not mental illness.

Please, stop talking about mental illness/good mentality, because having your own personality is not wrong.
Think that giving a bad image about CLL is not helping people who have to do it, think that some of us would have to explain it to our families, and telling that it is "bad mentality" is not helpful.

Being so insecure about yourself that you feel the need to tower over 90% of other people just to be happy is a bad mentality.

I agree, it means that you need other people to accept you so that you can accept yourself instead it should be the other way around.

Bro im very happy that u changed ur mind about getting LL you’re in a pretty decent height I would do anything to be on ur shoes but please don’t say things like u need to accept urself because you don’t know how sad it is to be 5’4 as a man in this miserable world we live in today , where people no matter what always find things to judge you so being 5’4 is a pretty  ty situation to be on and you’re never gonna know how it is and how it feels it’s hard to get over it so being given the chance to change it once and forever its like a gift from god

I don't want to "tower" other people, I just want to be like other people are.
Most of people agree that the ideal height of a man is around 180-190 cm tall (5'11''-6'3''), so... I want that for me. I want it, if other people are have that, I want to have it too. I am not asking about having a third arm, I am asking about having something that a lot of people already have, that is not mental illness, that is having my personal point of view.

I don't want to accept something that I don't like, I want to change my body, not my feelings.

Also, selfacceptance is easier when you are 185 cm (6'1'') tall.

I totally understand, I'm almost always the shortest in my friendgroup hahahah, but somethings you simply cant fight and you have to let go. If you were 300 pounds you could simply go to the gym and literally burn the fat off of your body but you cant do that with height.

I agree, but height doesnt define you, your character does. Ofcourse everyone wants to be 6'1+ but not everyone is 'blessed' with that height. And youre 5'8 thats average in almost all countries outside of Europe, how old are you if you dont mind me asking?

That is the reason because I want to do it, I want to be "blessed" too.
That is not mental illness, that is bringing to my life things that are good form other people's lives.

Please, call CLL "mental illness", because you don't know who are doing it.

I feel bad for you, the fact that height, those couple of extra inches make a huge impact to your daily life. Hopefully you'll find your inner peace one day, good luck though my guy.

It has been 5 days since you announced that you changed your mind about LL but you are still here chating and commenting! May I ask why don't you forget everything about this forum and the LL community and get on with your life???.....Are you absolutely sure that you "changed your mind"? have a good day.

"I'm done with LL!" Proceeds to stay on this forum posting constantly about LL and bashing on others for wanting to do a completely elective procedure that he himself wanted to do only a few days ago.

"I changed my mind but I'm still constantly posting on this forum 24/7! I don't want to do LL but I'm still talking in this forum for no reason!"

I'm a med student and I'm currently studying LL because later I might actually do this procedure myself, orthopedic surgery has always interested me.

As a surgeon ofcourse, I'd love to make people who are insecure about their height happy. Trying to lower the risk and maybe make it even more affordable if possible. But we'll see what the future holds for all of us.
