4cm on femur
« on: May 01, 2020, 10:47:29 AM »

I'm around 5'6" (5'6.2" night / 5'7.1" morning) and if I proceed with leg lengthening I would like to lengthen my femurs 4cm to be around 5'8 range (5'7.7" night / 5'8.6" morning). How do my proportions look? My armspan is a tad short at 5'7.5".

I know it's not a lot but I know that this will make me happy, reduce the recovery time of the surgery and allow me to hopefully resume athletic activities at a level not far worse than before. I care a LOT about proportions and want to be well within the range of what is normal.

Do you think I should do tibias or femurs? I'm leaning on femurs. I think my tibiae are too long to begin with.
Here is me at my normal night height / +3cm / +4cm:

I agree femurs would be better than tibia. Both 3 and 4 cm looks good to me ie. not wierd or disproportionate looking at all, within a range for ideal proportions.

Pictures can be tricky though. Do you know what your current inseam length or inseam/total height ratio is? Press a book up very firmly between your legs between your crotch, press the side of the book onto a wall to level and measure top of book to floor for an accurate inseam measurement.

Inseam/height ratio is most important for looking proportional in your case since your armspan would still put you well within norms.

Sitting height is 89/90cm night/morning (35.0"/35.4")

Inseam is 77cm (30.3")

So currently my inseam to height is 30.3/66.25 = 45.7%

After lengthening it would be 31.9/67.8 = 47.0%

I think my sitting height is good. I already sit as tall as some taller people.

Are you sure it's currently only 30.3? Your legs look on the long side. It could just be the photos though. You really have to press the book firmly between your legs and use a thin book to make that possible for measuring your inseam ratio.

47% from my research is a totally normal and pretty much dead average inseam to height ratio. Some european countries have average male inseam to height ratio as high as 49% from what I know.

Yeah I measured my inseam countless times over the past year, pushing as high as possible. It's 100% under 78cm. I suspect the angle makes my legs look a tad bit longer. If taken from eye level my legs look noticeably shorter. It's weird because I do feel like I have pretty long legs but it could just be because I'm very narrow with thin bones.

Your bones don't look narrow to me. From the picture they look average if not on the thick side for your frame. Again, pictures are tricky though. What's your wrist circumference?

I see what you mean about how you have long-looking legs, but I had a 29" inseam at about your height when I did LL and had very short-looking legs due to my short tibias.  Tibias seem to play a bigger role in perceived leg length than femurs do.

You might just have a tall pelvis and/or high belly button, or maybe short femurs.  Can't tell because of the underwear, and I'll leave it up to you to figure that one out.  :o

My boxers were hiked right up to the top of my V line because I didnt want any illusion that made my torso look longer. I think I have a tall pelvis and also a long neck which makes my upper section look smaller than it is. My wrist is 6.75" wrapping it as tight as I can without pressing into the soft tissue, but I swear it used to be less. I can probably get it under 6.5" if I wrap it very tightly. Not sure what's the correct way to measure it lol

I'm not going to make a mockup for this one but I think my proportions are shown better from this angle. Note that my torso is half an inch longer here due to the time I took the photo.

Hey. Judging by the photo, you look great both with 3 and 4 cm. I think that even with 5 cm in the femurs everything will be fine, since your tibias don’t seem short
