Sciatica
« on: January 19, 2020, 03:18:30 PM »

Hey guys, so I'm almost at the end of my lengthening phase but one problem I've had for over a month now is sciatica which shoots pain down my left leg when I'm seated in certain positions or when I'm lying in bed. I've never had sciatica or any other issues before surgery, I'm not too sure what caused it. Have any of you guys suffered from this during LL and if so did it eventually go away?

I am at the beginning of my lengthening. While at times in years past, i would sit down for extended periods of time and get sciatica, i haven’t seen it flare up until yesterday. I was sitting down in my wheelchair and it started again. Now when i stand up or stretch, my right behind is really painful. Have you spoken to Dr. G about it? I was going to talk to him about this tomorrow.

I find it too if I'm sitting in my wheelchair for more than about 10 minutes. If you suffered from sciatica before then I'd say the lengthening would definitely aggravate things to bring it back again. I never had it before and it was Dr G who told me what it was, I can't remember if he said it would go away or not, I'll need to ask him when I see him next time. I'd be interested to hear from other LL's to see if this is a long term thing or not.

If the rate of sciatica were so high with CLL, people wouldn’t do it :'(

Sorry to hear this nestor. hope it goes away soon. Sciatica is from a pinched nerve in the back right? How can LL cause this?

My mother had a bad case of sciatica, I've been reading at the time that it can be acute or chronic, thankfully it was the former. Symptoms disappeared entirely and didn't return. Not caused by lengthening of course, just saying.

True sciatica is a verterbrae problem. In our case, we are sitting in uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. It is likely we are compressing the sciatic nerve that runs through what is called the piriformis muscle when we sit. Some things to alleviate this are stretching the area. Check with your PT. At Thesus Rehabilitation, they have given me deep tissue massages in that area as well as electrotherapy.
