Does doing only 5 cm on the tibias decrease the odds of permanent knee pain significantly?

Let's say you used the stryde nail. Should you use a different nail?

Anyone who has done internal tibias who can chime in?

the nail is the problem or more like the hole into the bone next to the knee joint

Thank you. So is the consensus that the risk of permanent knee pain is about the same for internal tibias for 5 cm and 7 cm? It's the hole and the amount of lengthening (within reason) isn't the main issue? Its the hole that is the big problem (so likely are screwed even if do just 3 cm?)

Knee risk is the same, but ankle problems and achilles problems will be hugely riskier.

I literally did an extra maybe 5mm on my right leg than my left and almost needed 3-4 months longer for recovery.

1 year post can run slowly, walking/gym everyday. Issues are zero, ankle tight waking up.

You're messing up two things.
Kneepain comes from the bone hole next the knee.
The secure amount of lengthening has to do with soft tissue. Tendons can't grow, only be streched.

Thanks! If hypothetically you had done internals for tibias, would you have stuck to just 5 cm?

Many go over 5 with IM nails in Asia
There are some diaries here also who are aiming for 8 cm tibias
