Hello everyone, I am a recently turned 17 year old guy currently standing at 5’3, the last time I went to the doctor was in January and he gave me an estimate of 5’6 but I never grew, I then with to an endocrinologist and he gave me a closer estimate of 5’4 at best, I just turned 17 at the end of September and I am due for another appointment to see how far my plates have closed since they refused me HGH. ( I made around 100 m/l of HGH a day) Me and my parents are considering LL at maybe eighteen but first I’m going to get a hair transplant since I’m showing stages of MPD.

Here are my questions;

What is the most effective and less costly method that can bring me as close as possible to 5’8?

What is the safest method?

How long will I need to recover?

What’s the maximum height I can achieve if I maxed out on Leg Lengthening?

Should I lengthen my femur, tibia or both?

Thank you for your time.

To get to 5'8 you'll need to do 5 inches which is difficult, you'll have to do both segments or cross lengthening.

Tibia is the better option if you only do one, it's safer, recovers better and is less of a hassle.

This will only be like 6.5cm maximum though so it'll only make you 5ft 5' or maybe 5'6 if you do a bit extra

Lowering your expectations about this surgery. This is the first thing you can do.

1. TOo early to get a hair transplant at 18. Do a lot of research. Ask your doctor how it will look when your 25.
2. Do femurs first and get 3 inches. If you really need more do tibias and get another 2 inches. Don't do cross lengthening unless you don't have enough money for internals.

And whenever you don't understand something, use the search feature in this site and it will probably be answered before. And do a consultation soon. It's good to have your hopes up and yet realistic while you wait for surgery.

So 3 inches on my femur and 2 on my tibia, or do you mean another 2 on my femur after I recover?

Cross lengthening is when you do both segments at the same time. This is more risky though. I would recommend doing 1 segment at a time. I, myself will be doing cross lengthening as I'm still young (19) so I would have time to recover from it.

The maximum height i've seen a patient do is 14.2cm but again I wouldn't recommend this. I'd do 13cm because 6.5cm is safe on both segments.

The recovery for this would be longer though.

The only reason i'm doing it is because i'd rather get both surgeries out the way at the same time and just take longer to recover than do one surgery then recover then go back then next year and do the surgery on the other segment that's 2+ years compared to 18 months for cross lengthening (7 months lengthening + 9-12 months recovery).

Whether you do tibia or femur the normal lengthening rate is 1mm per day, although with your age you could potentially do 1.25mm per day. the process is surgery, then the latency period of approx 1 week, then you start lengthening say 1mm per day, so possibly 78 days if you had a Precice femoral nail. After that is the consolidation period which is several months. Its a long process so if you were commited to 5 inches and doing tibias and femurs then perhaps trying to do them at the same time would be something you could look into. if you did Femur and Tibia, 65mm each then you would only have 65 days of lengthening.
