I recently had my consultation w/ Dr. Paley. Overall a positive experience, however, results of my blood test came in and reported low Vitamin D levels at about 11 ng/ML. I was informed that the optimal range is 30 to 80 ng/mL).
I'm pretty concerned about the Vitamin D deficiency in the context of my bone health and regenerative capabilities for bilateral femur lengthening. The entire team (Dr. Paley himself and all the Nurses) informed me that I shouldn't have to worry, they prescribed me Vitamin D supplements and advised that I take them to get my levels up by my surgery date which is still 2 months away.
Admittedly, I never take any vitamins and my diet hasn't been great. I've also had low sun exposure recently given a pretty hectic work schedule (office work) so I'm not shocked that my levels are low, just a bit concerned at the magnitude of how low they are.
Question for you guys:
1) Anyone else experience low levels of Vitamin D and were they able to increase them through supplements/diet/sun exposure?
2) How important are these levels in the context of this surgery? I'm hoping that in 2 months time I can get my levels optimized.
