New soft tissue growth during LL
« on: May 10, 2014, 07:19:15 PM »

Is there any evidence that proves/suggests that new soft tissue is generated and growing alongside the bone during LL?

On the old forum i have seen many people claiming that it is true, that the soft tissue at first is stretched because it cant lengthen at the same pace as the bone, but eventually it catches up and adapts.

However i have never seen a study or anything of the sort to prove it, also many vets here seem to claim they have permanently lost muscle size and explosiveness. Possibly there is more time required and they are still recovering, or maybe it simply cant adapt to LL.

Anyone know about any studies or other info that is related to this?

Well, my calf muscles are bigger than when I started LL.  I don't have a study to prove it, but my legs would look like toothpicks if the soft tissue hadn't grown.

yeah true but you had internals which means they most likely did a fasciotomy on you, same with Sweden. Maybe that alone made your calves bigger  :P. I dont really understand how the body works so i dont get how the fasciotomy allows the calves to get bigger to begin with. But if such a surgery allows for growth i assume that the body should be able to grow new muscle mass along the new bone too.

But im not sure if this happens without a fasciotomy.. a study would be great or somebody who did externals only could share how their muscles adapted.

Btw why would explosiveness be lost if new soft tissue is generated? Anyone got an idea or guess as to why?

Legs don't get bigger without the body generating new tissue.  Cells don't just stretch out by 3 inches.  Hyperplasia (an increase in the number of cells) occurs.

They don't do fasciotomies routinely in Beijing.  Or anywhere as far as I know.  A fasciotomy is a treatment for compartment syndrome.  That's when your muscle gets too much blood in it and an uncomfortable (or even dangerous) amount of pressure builds up.  A fasciotomy is just the cutting of a little hole in the fascia (outer covering of the muscle) to let blood out so pressure won't build up anymore.

I didn't lose explosiveness.  I can jump up and sprint out of here immediately if I need to.  I lost some agility though, which I believe is because of mechanical reasons or perhaps that not enough new tissue was generated.

Okey thats awesome info, that suggests any kind of tibia LL method should potentially be able to increase calf size, btw did you have an fasciotomy? sorry i just assumed you did since i though it was standard when using internal rods.

Also thats amazing that you didnt lose any explosiveness,  i hope to maintain it aswell because it will be needed when i start training mma seriously after ive recovered. I was very explosive before the surgery and hope to still be afterwards  :P

When you say you lost agility, you mean you are more stiff in the leg joints than before LL or something? like less nimble? i guess maybe the tendons werent stretched out if thats what you mean :p

Even slight increase in calf thickness would be a huge incentive to getting tibs done. Any info on this is more than welcome!

Yeah, less nimble is a good way to describe it.

My calves are bigger around than they were before LL.

When you streches for long time a tissue it will grow. New cells will appear. Thats the reason why andropenis work on penis growth

hey,brother water

i've read lot's of your great post and gain huge value info in LL ,i mean contribution of veterans like your are definely helpful for us

and i got a question about your fasciotomy, you mean it let blood out and reduce pressure in front tibia compartment, will the pressure accumulate again when we walk or sport? since you said your surgery is just a little cut instead of total split of the deep Fascia, i read from paley's website ,it says compartment is inevitable when we lenghen 8cm ,while 50% posibility when doing 5cm
http://www.limblengtheningdoc.org/cosmetic_stature_lengthening_FAQ.html

paley call his mothod as "iliotibial band release " i wander if it is similiar with your's

so would you give more detail about your fasciotomy? such as how big cut it is ,and does we need this surgery repeatly or just once is fine?

thank you so much

Thanks for the kind words.  I'm glad that my posts on this forum are helping people out.

I don't know what a liliotibial band release is, but I think it's different from fasciotomy.  The hole is permanent, so the pressure won't go back up.  My doctor made 4.5 inch slits in each leg and the scars healed really well.

So...there are parts of the soft tissue that stretch (like ligaments and skin?) but muscle actually grows new cells? Or which parts exactly stretch and which parts grow?

I can vouch for the penis thing. Got .5"+ after putting in some work through old fashioned jelqs.

LL = growth through stretching (except for the bone which isn't being stretched).  If you keep stretching something something on your body, it will eventually grow to relieve the tension.
