About the quality of physical therapy in Greece
« on: May 16, 2019, 01:29:19 AM »

I saw the diaries of three Giotikas patients in this forum.  Recently I learned that Greece is not good for physical therapy.  Of the three diaries, only one has succeeded without any problems.  Patients currently undergoing surgery also had some problems.  Is this a problem for personal health?  Or is Greek physical therapy a problem?  Giotikas is considered a very good doctor on this forum.  But isn't it in fact?  Will this problem be solved if I hire a physical therapist personally?

I was really considering giotikas but couldnt find diaries, guess ill check them out now

Always thought greece was good, it has pretty high standards at a lower cost

55-65k for stryde for femur and tsfon tibia combined with pt and hospital fees included is a great price, if outcomes were good i was gonna go for 12-13cm next year. Lowest in the US is 72.5k for stryde femur without physical therapy from Dr. Mahboubian

That's true.  With Dr. M, I ended up using my health insurance to cover PT that was close to my home.

That is really interesting.  I haven't seen many Giotikas Diaries.  What were the problems that were experienced by the patients mentioned?

One patient discontinued extension without reaching the target extension.  The frame is still attached to his feet.  Patients with LON seem to have a poor balance on one leg.  I also do not know in detail.  No decision can be made as neither patient sees the final result.  But I hope both will get better in the end.

Yeah but if you have US health insurance i would assume any complications after wards you could use health insurance at paley or rozbruch even if you had it overseas, no?

Yes, the complications can be handled by your health insurance.

Giotikas recommended to stop lengthening, and advised to go back a few millimeters. I think this shows that he adapts well to the situation and is a responsible doctor. He did not risk a few millimeters for the possibility of loss of functionality.

The frame is right on schedule, because patients usually wear the frames for about 10-12 months (TSF, ilizarov).

We should not judge doctors for complications, if the complication is not caused by the surgeon, or is not in his control. We should judge how doctors handle complications, how they react. Just look at doctor Guichet, at the first complication he runs away like a cry-baby.

Just to clarify. To stop at 4,3cm was my own decision. Afterwards I lengthened again up to 4,9cm. But since my bone growth is not that strong Dr. Giotikas recommended to shorten 2mm again as that might help.

I don’t understand though can you explain

1.8 inches barely makes a different to your life, why would you pay all that money and do all that suffering for that? Why didn’t you just wear shoe lifts?

I’m not criticizing but Just our of curiosity

Like Me aiming to do 5cm external on tibia and 7-8cm stryde on femur is 4.7-5.1 inches. Going from 5 foot five and 1/2 to 5’10+ range is a WORLD apart. I don’t really see how you would even really notice a large change under a couple inches, sure it’ll help a bit but not worth the money and suffering

Just like sylar94 mentioned, I'll do Stryde in the future. Not sure when though.

I hated lifts because they were causing me knee pain and also I would feel ashamed to take off my shoes at my friends' house. So that wasn't a solution for me.

And I would never wear 4-5cm shoe lifts. That's too obvious.

I did notice the difference. Just for an example: before I had to look up to my older sister's eyes and now she has to look up to mine. I never expected LL to change my life. I just feel more comfortable with a few cm more.

For me there was always a big difference between 1,60 and 1,65. With shoes, I can be 1,67/1,68. 1,68 is sth complete different than 1,60.

In the end of the day for a short man every mm more is precious. Many here who aren't objectively short don't understand such things.

No I feel you every inch counts but To society they would still discredit you if you’re 5ft or 5’2
Or 5’4 or 5’6
You’re still considered short, starts to get a lot less discriminatory at 5’6

Although there are very few Giotikas patients in this forum, his reputation is good.
There is too little information to judge him as a good doctor.
It is also somewhat suspicious that there is no bad opinion.
A few years ago on the forum Dr. Guichet was believed to be a good doctor.  But he was a bad doctor.  I'm worried that Giotikas could also be like Guichet a few years later.
