Hi:
I have read alot about limb lengthening and i m very much eager to do this any time soon rather then late.  I can spare 30k to 35k for this procedure right now.  But my problem is how t o manage my life while i m going through LL.  I have an excellent job(They are not gonna let me take off for more then 1 month if that), wife (Who doesn't work) and kid(who goes to school), mortgage to pay, car payments etc.  Obviously these things wouldn't stop and bills would be comming in.  I don't want to make life miserable for my family just because i want to be a few inch taller.  But on the hand, my short stature is always bothering me. I am in the late 30s and i m afraid if i have to wait before all the things settle in my life (or family) , it will be too late.
My question is for all those veterans who were in my shoes and they pulled it off without impacting too much their life/family life.  Any suggestions?

eager,  i dont think you'll be able to be back to a normal life in 1 month... will be very difficult

Hi, for your situation it is difficult. The only way this is going to work is to ask your wife to work during that time, so the bills/payments can be taken care of. But then you still need to quit your job. You need at least 3 or 4 months for lengthening period assuming you don't have any complications. And for the money you have, lon/latn is probably your only option.

First of all I am not a LL veteran (will be soon hopefully) but 1 month off sounds unrealistic to me. Since you have 30-35k to spare, you will be able to afford LON/LATN on tibias and, generally, for 5 cm gain would roughly take about 6 months to walk unaided. But this time frame assumes no complications during LL! Some people may recover quicker while some may have delayed recovery because of varying individual physiology. Due to the very unpredictable nature of this surgery it would be best for you to take about 6-12 months off work before proceeding CLL.

If you'd do internals that are weightbearing (Betzbone, Guichet) and if you have an office job, you could be back at work after 4 weeks.
The problem is, you don't know before, how you will feel after surgery. (Pain, medication, lack of sleep?)

I know i am in a difficult situation and that is why i am putting this in front of you guys because you went through or you are going through this phase.
Actually i thought about internals(LATN/LON) but now when i found out about the lingering knee pain for life  after internals i started  leaning towards external only method because of fast recovery and less trauma.
I was thinking more of Dr.Salemah in Syria(country is in a mess now) or Germany(Even though its more expensive). His device is weight bearing with not many pin breaks and infection.I read all his diaries on old forum  and the outcome was most of the positive. But now after reading about old forum  on this forum, i don't know if i should trust those diaries.
Then other option is to go to Russia for externals and do 5 CM only so that i can be back to work(May be new job if get fired. And BTW i have office work 9 to 5) in 6 months. I need an option where the cost is around or less then the amount i have and i can be back to work(I am OK with Crutches but not with walker) in minimum amount of time.
At least if i pay less for the surgery, this will not break my bank and i can tap into my saving(Left  over) in case i will be out of work for extended period of time.
