Monorails on Femurs ?
« on: April 27, 2014, 03:14:43 PM »

I am thinking of doing Monorails on Femurs for 4-5cm, any thoughts on this?

I heard that external Ilizarov on femurs is very painful.  Is it any difference on the monorails?

This is something I'm interested in as well, but for a really small gain; 1.5 -2 inches max

I don't think I could do monorails on the femurs even for a gain of 4cm.  I think after I read the diary of crazy+6 I was totally turned off by the idea.  But maybe with a different doctor it would be ok.

Yeah those big pins tearing through your thigh muscles has to be painful.

Has anyone read a successful diary about external femur lengthening?

It seems like Disobedient hasn't had it too bad so far except for the amount of time she has had the fixators on has been an issue for her.

I don't think they tear through the muscles.  I think they slide them in between the muscles.  Still, both Mummy and Jungle said it was agonizing to have monorail femurs done.

My roommate did it and it was agonizing he said. 4cm. He aimed for 5,5cm but his femur fused at 4cm.
He tells me that he is fine today and can do everything he wants. He has an IMnail in his left femur and a plate holding his right femur together.

I would very much like to meet him this summer to see if he can run or not.
He also did 7cm on his tibias. Dr Sarins first Cross lengthening.

--------------

Even I have been thinking about it since I only want ~4cm and the cost is too much with Guichet, Jamal and Betz if I was going to do it with them for only 4cm.

Wearing the monorail for less than 5 months is not really big deal..and I'm not saying it's not painful..

You will do just external or you'll do LON/ LATN ....?

Monorail destroys your legs and doing LON/LATN is even worse.

This is why I told you that you can forget about running Diso.
If you do, then show us a video of it.

Running at this stage is impossible.. after few months or a year, yeah I can do that...
monorail is not bad at all, you just have to choose the right doctor..

No, you can not. Sorry.

It'll take much longer time for you to be able to run.

Good luck.

Not only do I believe that she will be able to run in a year, I believe she will be able to run faster than Sweden in a year.  ;)

I would prefer Monorails only.  I don't fancy having the nail inserted into my femurs.  The less damage the better.

But I don't know if I can tolerate the additional months, then that's when LON/LATN comes in.   Tough choices.

I don't think I would want to do monorails on femurs even for a few cm. Dr Birkholtz seemed to imply that you'll always end up with somewhat reduced ROM after wearing any type of externals on femurs.
