He seems like such a trustworthy and competent doctor. He seems to be saying that he gets people back to 100% or near enough...........??

By the way in case it isn't already obvious, thanks very much for doing these interviews!

@limewalk I agree I talked to him for a bit before and after the interview and Dr. Paley is a cool guy. 8) Dr. Divya, okay got it. I plan to reach out again this week to see if Dr. Parihar would come on.

@Movie So I had my original surgery done late July 2012 and the removal was the Sept/Oct 2013 so just over a year later. I remember I was advised to use a crutch or two for a few days and was a tad stiff where they went in to remove rod and screws but could walk fine. Week 1 was just stationary bike to loosen up and after 2 weeks I slowly transitioned back into the gym. I noticed a difference getting the rod out. I could feel the tibia-fibula able to twist and torque better without feeling restricted with hardware, not to mention feeling a bit lighter in the leg and the original Precice was titanium so I can only imagine the weight the Stryde carries being steel.

@kats20 yeah he's a careful worker, the GOAT in LL. Thanks I appreciate it!

@Polvoron thanks for your support! I thought hitting the 1k mark was cool too for such a niche topic

Can Paley patients confirm?
« Reply #35 on: June 15, 2020, 07:12:17 AM »

Is it really true that you can (as Paley says in this interview):

- contact a PA for any difficulties during lengthening 24x7 and they would help you?
- if any complications spotted during PT, they would immediately text Paley and he or Robbins would see you without appointment?

Can Paley patients confirm?

When I discharged from hospital, they did give me a number and said there will be people answering the call 24/7 if I have emergency. But I never tried to call that number. So can't really answer that.
The therapists monitored my progress and measured the degree of my bending and legs straight. They said they need to input these number to their system and the doctor will check it. So I do believe they keep monitoring patients. But I am not sure what they will do if they spotted out complications. So far I am doing ok, I can give only my experience.

-Yes. Paley has a web portal where you can send messages to Paley and all of his staff. Generally, the doctors or PA got back to me within 24 hrs. I never had to call them as there was never an issue that was urgent for me.

- Yes the PT's oversee and monitor your progress throughout the entire distraction process (5 days a week). Each PT session the PT's are assessing your health (flexibility, pain or discomfort, range of motion, etc.) Also every 2 weeks you get x rays and the PT's do RoM measurements to make sure you are not behind the curve. I've seen people who got too stiff / didn't stretch enough where the PT's took note and informed the doctors who then required the patient stop lengthening, so yes, they do keep a watchful eye on you which overall is a good thing as it keeps you accountable for stretching and prioritizes safety.

What a surprise. You actually got Dr. Lee on. Good job cyborg

He injects BMAC to all his tibia patients. That's really cool, never heard about this.

Also- what doctors did he mention at the very end? He said Paley, Rozbruch, then someone from Germany, and then Turkey.

Who did he say? From Germany and Turkey

Wow, all the CLL legends getting interviewed by Cyborg. Great job, man.

Dr. Lee is straight up and he even threw a couple of more CLL surgeon names into the hat!  He's right about recoverability, by the way.  Paraphrased, you should aim for 100% recovery but be ready to fall within the 70%-90% range.  Prepare for that.  Having gone through this surgery myself, returning to "just walking and jogging" comfortably within 6 to 9 months is easily attainable.  To approach and regain your old athletic self; well that can take 2 or more years.

Good luck guys and I hope these great videos keep coming!

All the best,

IFS

Cyborg,

I hope you do not misunderstand the question I am willing to ask.
First of all, I have to admit that I literally watched all your videos and I find you pretty charming, a lovely and energetic human being and I'm so glad that you are doing okay, keeping yourself fit etc.

But the question is, why do you always comment on videos about LL on youtube, and also spend time for the interviews etc.
Are you doing this because you want to help people or are there another resaons? Like maybe you love science and this topic interests you or something.

What I mean is, you've already done this surgery 8 years ago, like why do you even care now; watching new videos about LL and commenting etc. If I were you, I'd completely forget about the LL and never ever use the forums nor the youtube resources.

Best Regards

@ghkid2019 yeah it was Peter Thaller from Munich Germany but the other one I will have to ask to find out it was hard to make out.

@IFS I agree. Training like you want to regain 100% will get you much closer to it than not trying at all. One thing you may or may not be fully noticing by now is the new muscle tissue formed allows you to actually become stronger once it matures within 3-4 years. I noticed More muscle = more strength potential = more power and performance. Obviously takes time to adapt and get used to depending on leg length etc. which is something to look forward to also!

@limewalk unfortunately no. I've tried both Dr. Divvya and Dr. Parishard but no reply. I will occasionally followup though. I have gotten in contact with my Dr. Janet Conway who I plan to interview soon enough. She did great for me and even Dr. Paley gave her props after I went off air on my interview

@A fair question. So the main reason I started it was to answer questions in bulk that I'd get asked (and still do) on a daily basis.  Also, I just wanted to create a resource I wish I had when I was researching the procedure 8 years ago. I bootstrapped some info that was on the web but had to make a decision within 3 weeks before starting grad school the following year. I also try to focus presenting the information in a way the general population can understand it so maybe it would be a tad bit more understood idk.

Also, I always liked orthopedics (as I was considering becoming one) and when I consider I had been in and out of the hospital for 3 broken legs among other injuries, I guess this is my way to be involved a part of the field I like without fully committing to being a full-on surgeon. The people's spokesperson if you will.

It would've been easy to just not look back but that was before I got drawn in. Now it's a fun hobby where if I get asked a question enough I'll jot down some ideas and decide to shoot a video after work and upload it. I blame the answering of every comment on Gary Vaynerchuk and his talks on giving value to build brand and so here we are...#cyborgs

« Reply #56 on: November 17, 2020, 04:04:02 PM »

Thanks small, brondo and BelowTheMean I like doing the interviews to get their perspectives.

Here's a new one with the only LL surgeon in Canada: Interview with Dr. Marie Gdalevitch - Montreal, Canada.

There was quite a bit of reference to quadrilateral lengthening for those interested.
(here's the link in case I fail at the hyperlink above lol - )

Dr Parihar - Normal Limb Alignment and Joint Orientation
« Reply #57 on: November 17, 2020, 08:27:34 PM »

Discussion starts at 1:43. The entire video might not be relevant to you as this is directed toward training doctors, but because a lot of people ask about and are concerned with limb alignment pre and post leg lengthening, I decided to post one of my surgeon's workshops where he discusses the topic. Hopefully you find it useful or interesting.

Here's a interview with Dr. Javier Downey Carmona from the Downey Institute in Seville, Spain. He trained with Dr. Paley & Herzenberg at ICLL. He deals with pediatric deformities but also offers cosmetic stature lengthening after Dr. Paley standardized his adult lengthening program from ground up.

And yes he mentions price (around 20min mark) for those of you who will ask lol
