Mitkovic Femurs

Does anyone have knowledge or experience with Mitkovic's device on femurs? For $13USD it seems a very viable option for femurs as long as it's tolerable to wear. I think Ant had femurs done with Mitkovic, but I'm not sure. It seems most go to him for tibiae, but femurs look like they'd be okay with his device.

is it an external only device? so many people advise against that, why though? I still don't really understand why external for femur for small gains like under 5cm is bad?

Yeah,

His device looks like it would be quite tolerable to wear on the femur. His price relative to internal options seems like a good trade off for the additional time required to wear it. You'd save a tremendous amount of money for a few extra months of wear. I also heard he has his own internal option for approx. 20kUSD, which is also extremely cheap, but I'm unsure on the veracity of that claim, so...

What time frame do you think a 5cm gain for femurs would be with his device? Do you have any link to his pricing or case studies? Is he a Russian doctor?

He's listed in the doctor's section. He quotes 9000 Euros, or something along those lines, for either femur or tibia with his external fixator. You can find his fixation videos on youtube. It looks quite comfortable and strong. I know as a doctor, he is heavily involved in the university in Serbia and seems to have good relationships with the international orthopaedic community. I can't personally attest to his reputation, but I know there have been instances of people who succeeded with him. I think Ant and Jungle were the main two, but again, not quite sure...

I had wanted to get my lengthening done with Dr Mitkovic back in 2007. Unfortunately I was a broke high school student at the time. His fixation device does look like it would be more tolerable on femurs than the classic Ilizarov device for sure.

He definitely has an internal nail that's been designed, patented, and used on patients.  He used one on Jungle.  Whether he currently has any available is the question.  He had production issues with it and may have abandoned it.  It's worth asking about, though, because 20K for internals with Dr. Mitkovic would be the best deal in LL.

With my own eyes, no.  Jungle was still doing his tibiae when I was there.  But I know Jungle did his femurs there, one external and one internal.  He got frustrated waiting for the internal nail to be manufactured (the first batch was botched by the factory), so he and the doc went ahead with one external just to try it.  He found doing that external femur to be agonizing so he just waited however long it would take to get an internal nail for the other leg.

Here he is after lengthening 5cm on one of his femurs with LATN.  He did external only for tibiae which is why the fixators are still on.
