LL and Muscular Legs
« on: April 02, 2014, 10:05:18 PM »

Hi all I will do my LL in Kiev with Dr jamal soon. I am a little worried that my legs are too muscular and inflexible which may inhibit me reaching my  goal of 7cm on femur. I have attached a picture of my leg. Can someone who has done LL with similar body type to me comment on their experience on the impact of muscular legs.

Hey mission, my legs were very similar to yours, due to a lot of weight lifting, and I want to say that you have nothing to worry about (everyone is different though, so I can't say for sure). If anything, I would imagine that having muscle before surgery would help keep your legs healthier than if you didn't have any, due to increased blood flow/circulation. I would suggest stretching a lot and making sure you're flexible as well.

I had my surgery on the 20th of March and I'm perfectly fine, though I did lose a lot of the muscle mass in my thighs, as well as a good deal of flexibility... But I can only imagine where I'd be at if I didn't train my legs or stretch.

Hope this helped you somehow!

I'm confused. Is being muscular good or bad?
I thought Dr. Guichet advises patients to get muscular in the legs as pre-op preparation.

I'm confused about this too. I'd assume it would help with strength and rebuilding and being able to move around. Regardless you will lose a ton of the muscle mass during the LL phase.

Muscular is usually related to stiffness and that can make LL more difficult but at the same time it is good to be muscular and having good blood circulation because it makes consolidation faster. Not all musclular people are stiff. Some are muscular and flexible.

so would it be good to be muscular and very flexible? If you're musclar; great. Just make sure that you are flexible and doing stretches daily to keep that muscles nice and loose.

yeah it is better to be naturally muscular and work on your flexibility.

im not going to repeat but this has been discussed many times on this forum, just use search..

tldr; muscular legs are not good for LL, especially with internals. It can even lead to malfunctioning devices (see amatan and wolverines precice diaries)

One of the last patients to use the PRECICE 2.2 nail. I met the first STRYDE patient and I strongly recommend the new STRYDE nail instead.
