Trendelenburg limp after LL ??

Hello, sorry guys for being inactive for a while.. So after 10 months of external LL with Dc mitkovic I can walk now but with a noticeable limp.. the doctor said that its due to the weakness of muscles of hip ( glutues medius ).. So I made some researsh and I found that my limp is similar to what we call " Trendelenburg gait ". Please, did anybody had the same problem, or know some informations.. please share it.

Welcome back! For your problem I would reccomend trying to first strengthen the weak leg muscle by yourself or with a therapist. How much did you lengthen? I take your frames are off now right?

I have bilateral trendelenburg but I expect it will go away when I finish lengthening. From what I've seen,  all patients have a little because you've not walk properly therefore some muscle are inactive. It usually Improves fast as you start walking and strengthens the muscle of the hip again.

Idk for sure.. I asked dc he said its normal and that happend to most of LL patient.. because of being immobile a long period.. and he said also that this limp will disspear.. ( im not sure about that honestly )

Thanks, Yea im actually working out a little..
I didnt take the device off yet, but I think soon I will do it, one more week to see new xrays and then take the step.. I dont want to finish with bowed legs thats why im still waiting for a better consolidation..

Not a big deal at all. I've seen a lot of patients with it and it all resolves in 1 month or less. As long as you take rehab seriously and move!

Thanks man, I was worried about that.. the thing is Im walking like this ( without cane inside the house/ with cane for big walks outside..) for 2 months and the progress is verry slow.. but any way im happy that is not something dangerous..

Hey everyone, so I decide to put on this forum my last xrays ( before one month ) I want to know what do you think guys.. because maybe I will take off the frames in one week.. I already start the processus..

Hello,
I wouldn't bet on, that the walking is improving just by the time.
This kind of walking during/ after LL , its similar to Trendelenburg, is caused by the trauma of surgery,
trauma of lengthening process day by day and being  more or less inactive for weeks or months.
To get back a proper walking its needed to work out balance and proprio exercises.
Its not just done by improving flexibility and strength.
The brain has to learn walking again, not the legs!

Im working with LL for about 10 years as Physical Therapist, just can add is from my experience.

Hello chucky, thanks for the informations and the advices.. im working now on my gluteus medius muscle ( I found some exercice in youtube .. you think thats enough to get back the normal walking ? And how long it take ? Thanks.

Hmm I think the answer is YMMV but you could try walking for long periods of time. Don't take my advise as gold since I've only consulted my current orthopedics doctor on the issue.

Btw I think you should start to see some improvement once your frames are off and your muscles and bones are fully supported.

Hello Conan,
how I said already, its not just done by building up your muscles.
When your rods allow full weigth bearing I would recommend to work on a proper posture while standing,
to work on changing point of gravity,simular to the walking and walking for short distances on a proper way.
We do work with our patients on treadmills in front of big mirrors. Its important that you can see, what exactly is wrong on your walk and how to correct it.
