Physical Therapy Routines + Workouts?
« on: March 25, 2014, 12:48:10 PM »

Hey there everyone, I'm pretty new to the forum have posted before, but in case anyone hasn't seen my posts a quick introduction - I'm taking care of my brother after his LL procedure, he had surgery last Thursday, in the mean time, I will be taking care to make sure he gets the right amount of vitamins, protein, and therapy. The LL method were using is the Precise 2.0 rod.

Since we aren't hiring a physical therapist, I've been planning on ways to get him back into walking condition. So far, we've worked on stretches lifting his leg as much as he can etc. 5 days after recovery, his right leg seems to be doing a lot better than the left (the left has a weird bruise - perhaps the nerve is bruised). However, both are recovering and he is able to stretch and move his leg further than the first day back from the hospital which is a relief. Is there any type of schedule anyone can lay out for me that their PT gave them? Or perhaps a time frame of anyone who has done LL when they were able to walk on crutches, etc.
And maybe some excercises and stretches that may be useful for him.

I'm also searching for equipment that may help with the process so far I've found:
Foot Peddler (

Deep tissue massager (relief of swollen muscles):

If anyone can please let me know if there is ANYTHING missing or that I'm doing wrong, please let me know! Comment on the above items if possible, and add to the list if you must!
Thanks so much in advance.

Hey Kp35,

I would recommend electronic muscle stimulator, my PT uses it with me every session and I also use it at home when I do exersices by myself. You should place it on the muscle while doing exercise. It's a great device, just read about it.
The link is an example, not an actual device I have. (Could not find a link on amazon),  but this is the idea:
http://www.amazon.com/Tens-Handheld-Electronic-Pulse-Massager/Dp/B00Dceblp4/dp/B00DCEBLP4/ie=UTF8?m=A2YWC33HW7NAC5&keywords=tens+unit&gclid=CL-D9tTtrb0CFWXl7AodTVUAHw

This is what I have:

Wonderful, thanks so much sweatpants!
I was looking at this on amazon earlier but I wasn't sure if it could somehow affect the metal rod:

I could use some of these. My muscles have turned to mush, I'm like an old guy wasting away before my time. Folks if you have used some products and they worked please post.

Yup! please let this be a thread for products you've used that have made your LL journey easier and less painful.
Does anyone have any idea any machine that will automatically lift your leg and bring your knee to your chest and back down in repitition? There was a machine like this at the hospital, I haven't been able to find out what it was called though.

Not related to physio, but I'd stress the use of flaxseed again. It doesn't get much recognition in the LL community,  but I ceased taking it for a few weeks, and after frame removal I hard severe knee stiffness and pain in my right knee. Been taking it for 3 days again and I can flex my knee to 90 degrees without too much difficulty. I've read it has pain suppressing properties rather than cartilage and joint repair properties (which glucosamine chondroitin is good for) but nevertheless it helps when you're doing physio movements.

Herbs are nice. I will stock up on Acai berry, it has high antioxidant property, will help fight bacteria and viruses as well.

I took coenzyme q10 before and they worked well. Felt healthy while taking it. But Acai is the king of antioxidants. I ordered a bottle from ebay while in india but never came. Lost 20 quids.

Of course... I've had about 10 deliveries fall into the abyss of nothingness, but luckily I chose PAY ON DEMAND as the method of payment, lol.

This makes sense, lubrication seems like a must for bones that are growing, could perhaps add extra tension between the joints. Thanks poly

Hey there food for thought,
I am unsure of what country you are from, but I just wanted to give you an angle you could maybe work out.  I am from california, and one of my plans was, once I started physical therapy during consolidation phase to get a physical therapists, and get it through your state, or federal governement.  The reason I say this is that the government won't pay for elective surgeries, but I am pretty sure their is a grey area, where you could get creative, and have the government pay for the physical therapy portion.  Especially if he did lengthening over Nail.  No one would even see his frames.  So who knows what could of happened to him.

Hi All,

I am a arthritis patient. After many medications and consultation of orthopedic doctors, I moved on to physical therapy workouts that saved my life.

In a very short I noticed a relief in the knee pain. These physical therapy provide strength to the muscles. After my doctors recommendation, I never missed a single day and the therapy helped to decrease pain and helped in easy mobility. These physical therapy Exercise focuses on proper control during functional movements such as squatting and carrying heavy objects with minimal to no pain.
