Femur or Tibia ?
« on: September 30, 2013, 01:00:29 AM »

Which section are you planning to do and which is better?

Is anyone planning to do both ?    :o

I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. It really depends on your personal goals.

Tibia takes a longer recovery time than femurs, so if you are positive that you will lengthen both segments, then femur is recommended to do first. However, if you're unsure or just want to lengthen one segment, then tibia is the better choice since your femurs are already much longer to begin with.

I'm planning for 5cm on my tibia this December.

if I go with it, I will definitely choose Femurs first.   Femurs because it yields a faster healing rate, and my tibias are currently a little bit longer than my femurs

I find that hard to believe that your tibias are longer than your femurs. You must have measured them wrong. The femur bone is always the longest.
Maybe it only looks like it bc your not so muscular?

Could be, since I've never had a full legitimate X-Ray on my lower limbs.  I try to measure from ankles to knee caps for tibial length and top of knee caps to upper buttocks.  Could be measuring it wrong, but the ankles to knee caps is a little bit longer but not by a big margin.

Femurs is the better option (internals).

- femurs is just one single, long and hard bone in each leg.
- faster consolidation rate
- only one cut needs to be made in the femurs vs 2 cuts in each leg for tibs
- it seems logical that femurs is more safe cause to stand, you need a strong foundation and because the tibs are unaffected, you have that foundation. We all know how important standing during the process
- although ballerina is probably just as bad as duckass, duckass seems to be more treatable. Ballerina has been depicted as a pain in the ass to treat, but I think this is stemmed from Sweden's experience haha
- scars are hidden and people won't find out unless you're in bed with a girl
- men's femurs are designed to be naturally longer tibs

But femurs are supposed to be more painful than tibiae. Isn't it?

Well majority of limb lengtheners have only experienced either one, so they can't really compare it. That question needs to be answered by someone such as the infamous Apotheosis and Crazy-6.

I am guessing femurs would be less painful. Another point I forgot to mention was that you can distract/lengthen at rate and more mm per day. It is accepted that 1mm + is allowed for the femurs, where as it's 0.6 - 1mm (being the highest) for tibs.

Asthetically I'd prefer my Tibs but...

I get shin splints when I run or speed walk for more than 30 mins and from the limited reading I've done this could be down to weak calf muscles or very tight calf muscles. My calfs are pretty muscular and strong so I think they must be very tight.

I've been working on stretching them and my achilies but not seen great progress so I'm coming to the conclusion that any amount of Tib lengthening will not be good for me personally.

I've noticed that a lot of people who get Femur surgeries face some hip issues and pain while lengthening.

Apo did both tibiae and femurs and said tibiae pained a lot lesser.

Femurs - faster recovery, I hope, faster consolidation and less risk of ancle and knee issues.
I was warned by an experienced LL vet years back who told me if you have the money then do internal femurs no doubt about it.
Also more cms can be gained. If I couldn't afford Internal femurs I'd be doing tibias but sticking to 5cm max to avoid a long term battle with balerina.

Good luck to anyone who does tibias though, plenty seem to do just fine as long as they dont go crazy with the amount of cms they want.

Are there cases of permanent duck ass?
Or will it always sort out by itself?

Tibia is more dangerous than Femur. With Tibia one can get compartment syndrome, which doesn't happen with femur.

Compartment syndrome can happen to any muscle in the body.
