I'm going to slightly disagree with jbc and say that some doctors will not recommend this surgery simply based on morals or the fact that they are also, in a way, biased. While we focus more on benefits and less on risks, they focus on risks and less on benefits. I've met an endocrinologist- a well reputed doctor that thought a 5'2 male getting this was completely unnecessary. Their opinions can be outdated and like he said, ultimately it has to be you who takes every input- forums, doctors, etc. and makes the decision of whether it's worth it.

To answer your questions:

1. Is 7.5cm's achievable for my height?
Yes, but with internal femurs only, and they're very expensive. 7.5cms for your height is actually going to be easier since your bones and muscles are already bigger, than say someone 5'4 that's lengthening 7.5cms. Something like Precice 2, even in India or Africa(counting travel & stay) will be $50K or more, and with Paley it'd go in the 100s.

2. If yes, will I be able to do everything athletic-wise that I can do right now?
With a good recovery, you can return to casual sports.

3. How do people save up the money to do Leg Lengthening?
Jobs. Parents. If they want to save, they do externals in India or China, but externals won't give you 7.5cms.

4. How safe exactly is it to go to places such as India for Leg Lengthening?
Safe if you go to a good doctor. There are many bad doctors in India. If you mean the country itself- going to India where you'll stay in a big city and only move between the hospital, the airport and the hotel, you'll be safe.

On this, Penguinn and I are in complete accord - this does happen. I understand why the doctor would err on the side of risk - their entire training revolves around eliminating risk :). However, you could ask:

"Taking your own personal views out of the equation, what data points and risks should I consider?"

This will normally force a Dr., for lack of a better word, to stick to the science and leave their personal biases out of it. If they insist on injecting them, you can choose to ignore them or consider them. My Dr. was unbiased, at least on the surface, and presented the risks at face value, and that was incredibly appreciated and played a big part in how I viewed the process, my follow-up due diligence and ultimately selecting a surgeon.

Attempting to do this surgery at your height is insanity!

You are neither tall nor short you are pretty much a very good average height.

Researching this procedure is easy doing it is another, there are loads of things never discussed about this procedure that people here usually try to deny or just ignore. If you read this forum and the old forum old forum  you would thinknthe only issue with LL is your proportions being off. Trust me you wont give a   about your arms being 1" too short for your new height there are far bigger issues than that.

A 5-7.5 cm increase will pretty much destroy your athleticvabilities its guaranteed in fact. Anyone who understands bio mechanics willntell you this. Defining athletic activities is also individual as well some people believe lifting a beer up to their mouth is athletic others may think doing 405lbs x 20!in the squat is an athletic achievement. You also dont know in future what you will want to do athletically, nyou may get interested in something and find out you cant do it due to this procedure.

Regardless of your surgeon you cannot be guaranteed no ill effects or complications it is entirely an individual matter. Even Paley etc get complications. It also doesnt matter much what your starting height is either, nyou may have less flexible muscles and tendons than a guy of 5-2 which will make your procedure a lot harder you just dont know.

My advice to you is to avoid this and get a grip!mif your pals wear lifts at 6-2 they have issues that go well beyond their height. Id take a wild guess that your 6-2 pals have basically got through life coasting of their height now as young adults they as a result have not bothered to develop their social skills as stuffs been handed to them on a plate simply for being tall.

OP found this forum recently and is probably overexcited about the fact that there exists a solution to his height issues.

Once he does enough research, my guess is that he'll probably get over it with time. Money, loss of time in his best years, LL stigma, risk of being crippled or even death.

What drives a 5'4 guy vs a 5'11 guy is desperation. 5'4 person is desperate enough to undergo this barbaric surgery to gain a new lease on life, 5'11 just goes from tall to taller.

well, death is rare as hell, if you go to a good doctor like paley or Guichet i believe you will walk normally less than 8 months, but not running or sport
