5cm in tibias - Who would you go with if you had unlimited budget?
« on: September 22, 2016, 07:36:11 PM »

Hello guys,

Sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere else on this forum.

My top concerns: recovery, complications, covered costs of complications.

Also, how open are these doctors about their results? I would like to visit/email a few of them to see evidence, not just a few guys on the forum either happy with the results or suffering from complications or lost diaries.

Cheers

Paley or Guichet, these are honestly the best doctors money can buy and you're kidding yourself if you go to anyone else. They place a big emphasis on full recovery. Other doctors, who may seem reputable (such as Betz or Monegral or Parihar etc etc) I just don't trust them, for the enormous amount of cm's they allow their patients to lengthen, that will never allow them to get a full recovery (what kind of doctor would do that? one concerned mostly with $$$).

No one who's ever lengthened with Paley within their 20's has ever had trouble regaining full recovery.

I think Parihar and Monegal have a limit of   6 cm  (tibias).

I would much rather go to Dr Paley than Dr Guichet for tibia lengthening if budget were not a factor. I can't remember the last account of tibia lengthening with Dr Guichet and he seems to prefer to avoid lengthening them for CLL.

But if you go with Dr Paley you're recommended to have saved an extra $35,000 just to cover complications.

Doesn't Paley do LON and LATN? From what I've read so far the external fixator method is preferred for tibias, so perhaps Dr. Parihar is the best choice. In this case, having unlimited money is irrelevant I guess.

He used to, but now Dr Paley will only do cosmetic lengthening with internal Precice now. He's been asked about using Ilizarov frames before and he replied that there will be no cost savings by lengthening with them.

Thank you for your replies guys!

I met dr G in Milano a few months ago. Even though I had explained I want to do tibias before, he was talking all the time about femurs at the consultation. When I started pushing for tibias he said I can get into trouble and that he doesn't normally do it. He also couldn't show me any recent results in lower legs lengthening. But he said a few times he was the first one in the world who did it with internal nail.

I already posted my pictures in this thread: http://www.limblengtheningforum.com/index.php?topic=3730.0
Here they are again:

I really think lower legs extended will look better on me. That's why I ruled dr G out and want someone who does lower legs lengthening often and has his hands on it.

What do you think about dr Catagni? He prefers lower legs.

Cheers

No man. You will look better with femur lengthening.

Go to dr. Paley. They let you meet other patients.

Lmao, go get your eyes checked.
Dude looks like he has already done +10 centimeters in femurs. Any further femur lengthening will make him look like an abomination.

Since freakin when Parihar allows for enormous amounts of lengthening? Besides he seems like pretty carring dude so the hell are you even talking about.

Probably just an innocent mistake. Parihar's limit is definitely 6 cm with exfix/LON on tibiae and even less for external femur if you can convince him to do it for you. I think he'll let you go the full 8 cm with Precice nails in the femur.

As for money, he's certainly not making a huge profit from it. Penguinn's surgery was $42,000 USD, of which $34,000 goes to Ellipse for the Precice nails. That's $8,000 left over for Dr Parihar without including his operating expenses for the procedure.

I honestly think that your femur/tibia are very much proportional. If you can, do a mock up.

Parihar is actually conservative and prioritizes function over length.

What tool does one use to do a mockup? Photoshop?  Could someone kindly point me to a right direction so i can do a mock up myself? A step by step instruction will be greatly appreciated.
