Tibia 5CM vs 6CM recovery difference?
« on: May 31, 2016, 10:58:41 AM »

Hi guys, planning to do Tibia this year. Haven't fully decided oh how much though. Ideally I'd like to lengthen at 0.75mm a day and goal should be either 5CM or 5CM. Hoping for a 60-80% recovery. I'm wondering if there's a big diff between 5CM and 6CM? I know 7.5 is too much which is why I'm staying away from it.

From what I can gather on this forum is that whoever did 5-6 centimeters in the tibias were back to 99% as they were before. But whoever did 7 cm in the tibia lost 30-50% of their athletic ability but could walk and jog 100%. If athletic ability is important to you than do 5-6 centimeters. Who are you doing the surgery with, by the way?

From reading diaries and speaking with many patients the general rule of thumb is the more you lengthen the lower your chance of a full recovery. The problem on these forums is there are guys who were never athletic in the first place saying that they have recovered which doesn't really mean anything.
As Jay pointed out 1cm can make a huge difference going from 6cm to 7cm in terms of recovery. Obviously you would have a better chance at a higher level recovery doing 5cm than at 6cm when considering your soft tissue and achilles tendon, how much better no one can say for sure.

I've seen alot of diaries where guys regret getting greedy and going for an extra cm which causes a decline in their athletic abilities far outweighing what an extra cm of height is worth. In the end it's up to you to weigh up the pros and cons.

Honestly 5cm would be satisfying for me. I'd love to do 6Cm since I'm there anyways but for a chance of losing a massive amount of athletic ability it's risky. I have very thick legs with alot of muscle which I think hinders recovery? Planning to do externals with Dr.Mitkovic.

Different doctors have different theories. Some (including Mitkovic) believe that additional muscles do not impact your recovery. Guichet thinks that additional muscles can improve your recovery. Most doctors agree that its not good to be on the two extremes - either too much muscles or too few. Too much muscles make you too heavy and you dont want to be too heavy. Too few muscles mean that...well basically there will be no muscles left to cover the new bone :) And distracting would be more difficult. If you have too little of sth, its more difficult to stretch it.
Most people here are not athetes and nobody is a professional athlete. At most people go to the gym regularly and do lifting. You can do that after the surgery, most people rocover that. However, I am yet to come across a diary of a professoinal athlete who undertook LL. One thing is for certain though and that its, nobody recovers 100%. Even professional soccer player coming after injury, been taken care of by the best doctors in the world, even they do not play at 100%.
