Smoking and Non-union
« on: April 24, 2016, 08:57:18 AM »

Was doing a little research on Non-union and wikipedia says patients with smoking history are at a high risk of Non-union. Now I'm not sure if that's smoking after fracture or smoking even prior to fracture. If it's the later, well, I'm sure there's plenty prospect LLers who smoke and smoke a lot. I smoke 2 packs a day.

What are your views on Non-union with smoking and Non-union in general?

Damn it! This surgery is too much work even BEFORE the procedure. Be Non-Smoker, fit, flexible, financially stable, strong physically, more strong mentally, et cetera. Anyway, I've seen posts regarding quitting smoking varying from 1 month prior to surgery to 6 months. Any word on that?

No you are just a sub-standard human being, who has made bad decisions. One of said bad decisions being that you are blaming the prerequisites for leg lengthening, rather than yourself for putting yourself in a bad starting position.

Learn to take responsibility for your own goals ..

Hello, I smoked cannabis daily for 10 years before LL. Ate chocolates and vaped during LL, now I've started smoking joints again.

My dominant leg had an amazing rate of consolidation and cleared weight bearing by month 4 after doing 7cm. The other leg healed slower, about 2 months behind. Note that femurs rarely get non-union unless you lengthened way too fast or your doctor used an improper technique.

If you don't mind me asking, what doctor did your procedure?

I would avoid anything that involves inhaling smoke.  edibles might be ok but I'd ask a doctor just to be sure

or bone infection like in the case of MasterHY
