Which cosmetic operations are you referring to that is not as 'complex and risky?'  Please give us an example or two.

Boob job? Penis enlargement? Blackhead strips? Teeth whitening?

Externals is cheap because the frames are reusable.
Internals are expensive because the nails are a niche medical device and manufacturers created them to make money, like everything in this world.

And doctors doing this to make money,so doctor's profit and manufacturer's profit equals an expensive amount i believe.
This is a very profitable cosmetic procedure but also the hardest one

The only thing that is suspiciously expensive in LL is the internal nail. I think that we are paying for the engineering and R&D effort, because the nail itself is not worth $12k, obviously.

Other than that, I don't think LL is extremely expensive when compared with other procedures. An intestine transplant costs more than $1 million, and a tracheotomy can cost more than $200,000, according to some websites (I find this last price really hard to believe)

I don't think LL is THAT expensive considering externals can come to 15K. The internal nails are a bit too much though.

Personally I think it is a good thing. The idea that the barrier to entry is both mental (it takes a lot of confidence to go through with it) and financial (need to save). Means that not every single short guy will get it done. So people like myself will actually be called 'above average'.

I like how with leg lengthening, you need to work for it. Its not just a pill that you take. As an avid gym goer, I enjoy working through pain to get to a goal. It is that bit more satisfying. The idea that one day I'll be 6 foot tall in a suit walking into a store to buy another suit .. well, that image keeps my focus set.

I personally think the reason why internal nails are expensive is that the companies have invested a lot of time, money, and resources before releasing such a nail. And then comes the whole thing with convincing top surgeons to use it, which link the product to their reputations as doctors. When the nail fails, boom! Say goodbye to your medical reputation. This does not justify the high expense of course, but what choice do you have other than external? As we speak, more companies are trying to produces their own competing internal nails, I am sure of it!  Let’s face it, what a beneficial investment! For us, the more choices we have, the less the cost is expected.

I know the nails are a high-tech products but the costs are extreme. And by the way there have been malfunctions with nails which have led to very serious complications.
