Is it normal to apply a plaster after removing external apparat?
« on: November 11, 2015, 10:25:29 AM »

Hi everybody.

I have read and one doctor told me that, when lengthening if stopped it is allow to remove apparat and apply a plaster. and after 1-2 months we can remove plaster. Have anyone heard about it? It is important for me. I did surgery 6 months and 6 days ago, I cant walk unaided, and still have some pain. If this way is possible, I'd like to do it.

I can't understand what you mean, but shouldn't you be asking your doctor?

That's not normal.  It would only be done if there's some sort of problem.

Musicmaker

Can you confirm part of your last post regarding 90% of patients getting misalignments. In what context is this happening? Even after the bone is consolidated?

I have asked Dr Monegal about the use of plasters after lengthening with exfix. Plasters can be used in some cases to avoid misalignments (e.g. when consolidation is not taking place properly), but even in those cases there are better solutions than plasters, like introducing a nail (LATN). Bluebarbie opted for this solution and detailed the whole process in her diary. From my point of view, keeping the frames is the best option in your case. If you took the frames now, you would get a misalignment (90% of patients get misalignments) and would need more surgeries.
Just in case people start talking crap, like always, I would like to clarify that it wasn't Dr Monegal who placed that plaster on me. I keep saying that Dr Monegal is the best doctor ever, my dear friends. 8)  :-*

My consolidation is normal. I think in december will be better. I'm going to do x-ray in december, if I see my bones are consolidated enough, and though I couldnt walk unaided, then I will ask my dr remove frames and apply plaster. But of course I'll ask his opinion at first.
