Concerning the shape bones heal in

I've noticed every post op xray i've seen shows the lengthened area (tibias or femurs) heals with a bit of spherical shape to the bone instead of the straight direction it had before. Any one know if what the effects of this are? It seems like such a thing would throw off the overall strength and stability of the segment. It's made me consider a slower lengthening rate as a result. Any thoughts or knowledge on the subject

 I'm not sure what exactly are you talking about but the regenerated bone is usually wider than the original bone. This is a positive thing, according to doctors.

As far as I know, the spherical shape will shave off with time. Can anyone confirm that?

That's my understanding too from my doctor who says it's a result of patients who have good bone healing and are active during lengthening.  The larger diameter of the bone means the new segment will be stronger than the existing bone, which is a positive. If it's the opposite and the new bone is thinner, then it would be weaker and easier to break.

That didn't happen to me, so I know it's not a universal thing.  My new bone is the same width as the old bone.

the rounded part fades off with time.. as it serves no purpose..

Good to hear, it's always seemed like something that would have a negative effect post recovery.
