how/when did you started being insecure about your height?
« on: September 18, 2015, 05:41:45 PM »

Im 5'8 and was never bullied about it. The insecurity started when i found out i was shorter than my dad and lil brother i taught it was because of my bad lifestyle. Then i found out it is just genetic because i ate a lot of protein, was never ill and athletic. Now i still want to be taller but im not insecure about it since im not really short and it wasnt my fault. Whats your story?

Fifth grade is when I first noticed that I was becoming noticeably shorter than my peers, but the height didn't bother me until 9th grade because before that point everyone just focused on the fact that I was fat. After I lost all the weight, then my height became the target and that's when I started feeling really bad about it. People would also make a lot of comments when I'd go anywhere with my half-siblings. Out of the five who share the same dad as mine, the shortest of them is 5'8 (female) and tallest is 6'3 or 6'4 (male), with the other half-brother not far behind at 6'2.

I'm sorry, that must have been rough.

I'm shorter than my dad too, by 3-4 inches. I ate lots of veggies and played lots of sports. Feelsbadman

But hey, at least I'm 5'10 and that's really not a bad height, although it would be really, really nice to be tall, and I always expected to be since most of my male family members are very tall. So I used to be extremely insecure about my height. I still get uncomfortable when in the shorter third of men in a room.

No one here whose depression started by thinking its their own fault because of bad eating habits? I think bad eating habits cant effect your growth if you in your teenage years, didnt had signs of malnutrition and wasnt ill. Look to rivaldo (footballer) he hasnt teeth due to malnutrition and he is 6"1

I might not have eaten enough because I was a track and cross country runner, so I tried to stay lean in order to run fast for long periods of time and this was during ages 14-17 (critical growing years), so that might be why I didn't grow as much as I thought I should have. When I began to realize I wasn't growing at age 17, I panicked and quit track and cross country and started eating 5x a day. I only grew about an inch afterwards. It's impossible to say exactly why we're short, though. It could be sleep, nutrition, genetics, or all. There was a kid on my track team who grew like 6 inches in a year, despite being very lean and not sleeping that much. He ended up much taller than his father to. You just have to accept that life isn't always fair, and there are much worse things that could happen than ending up shorter than you hoped, so, while it sounds corny, we need to be grateful for what we've got.

Im the same as you, played almost everyday football at age of 14 (wanted to be a pro footballer lol) and did taekwondo from 9 to 12. Didnt eat a lot of veggies but ate everyday bread with cheese and chips. Funny thing is that i was tall as a kid and my dad and lil bro where short as kids. Glad this is reality cuz it shows it wasnt my fault

Yeah I was really tall as a kid too (90-95th percentile) so I was told my whole life growing up that I'd be at least 6'0 and possibly as tall as 6'6. So that's why 5'10 came as such a huge disappointment.

I just didn't grow very fast once I hit puberty and only grew an inch after 17. Interestingly, my dad was 6'2 by the time he was 13 or 14 and fully developed by 15. His brothers grew more slowly and are much taller than he is.

My dad is 5'11 and was a late bloomer. He grewed till 21/22. At age of 10 they expected me to be 6'1. I started quit earlywith having spotsaround age of 11 and had a semi thick mustache at age of 12. Now im 19 and i look like a man. So i have almost nothing of my dad. Only the same toes. I look like my mom who is 5'3. Ive seen on a lot of sites that eating unhealthy and not sleeping enough is quit common under teens.

I'm guessing there is a psychological element we all have, where if we don't at least hit our father's height we develop a sort of inferiority complex: height neurosis in this case.

Possibly because we feel like we did something in our youth that made it so we didn't hit our father's height; whether we had control over it or if we were coded to be this height.

Thats true, if my dad was 5'6 i would nevrr ever worry about height. I dont think i stunted my growth cuz almost every teenager lives unhealthy becuz of smoking etc. But once you are involved in this its hard to forget it all

Yes this is more or less my situation as well. I'll never be as tall as dad unfortunately so I'll remain the shortest man in my extended family but if I can at least get to something around 183-185 I'll be satisfied. Proportions are important to me but then again I will likely have this one chance to increase my height and a lifetime of improving my looks by building my shoulders or even lengthening my arms. Maybe I'll push it a little and if worst comes to show just wear thin shoes to avoid looking bad.

if i had not studied engineering (i'am an engineer) i would not consider this surgery, since i would not have the money.
This surgery is only made for rich people, those who earn 1500 euros a month can't do it.

I always worried about my height, when i was 13-14 my sister who is 2 years  younger than me was my height maybe even 1cm taller. But at that time i was 50/50% at my classrom. But then suddenly i grew 10cm for 18months(puberty),also the most of my  classmate grow about 10cm. At age 16 still was 50/50 at class and tallest at house. But since 16 grow just 1cm,and the most of  my classmate grow couple cm and was shortest in class at senior year.

Don't generalize because you're too lazy to research good doctors in other countries.

I kinda became insecure when my mom told me that I haven't been growing for years. Then insecurity high rocketed when I was refused dance from a girl. Friends laughed and told me I should wear female heels.

But later insecurity diminished when I discovered that insecurity will just slowdown my work and I Will NEVER BE ABLE TO SAVE UP THE MONEY FOR LL.

This surgery isn't for rich people exclusivlely, a lot of people  (who are not rich) buy cars for 40 000-50 000 I'd just rather have LL instead. It all depends on the patiens you have collecting it.

It's fine if it personally irks you, but claiming that one will get their legs amputated in any country except USA is just ignorance. There are so many (multiple)success stories and great records that a lot of foreign doctors have. The trick is to read, see for your own which doctors are good and which aren't without ruling out entire continents from the map.

Well I started becoming self conscious about my height around when I was 14. Currently I'm 156cm and still really self conscious.. Btw I'm a female.

I started getting insecure about my height when I was about 14 years old.  Everyone else started growing a lot and I became (and stayed as) one of the shortest kids in my class.  I was always smaller and younger-looking than all of my peers, so I never got that "high school/college coming of age" experience in my life until LL.
