Just how dangerous is LL?

Considering you have a good doctor, how dangerous would you call it? All surgeries come with risks but realistically.. I'd love to get taller but I'm very skeptical.. nobody looks forward to being a cripple.

I am doing the worst out of those I lengthened with(op was a year ago), and I am doing alright, and likely excellent once rods are out.

From what I saw, not too dangerous if you're in the right hands.  Guang Ji Hospital was full of patients when I was there, and nobody got permanently crippled.

Do you guys know stories of people getting crippled during LL? Having to amputate legs or so? I'm really scared of that.

No but just get done in EU or US don't risk getting crippled here in India. Risk of crippling in EU or US is like 0.00002% but risk of getting crippled with Indian surgeon is like 45%.

With most Indian surgeons, yes. I think Doctor Mangal Parihar is good though, Kilo Kahn did go to him and everything went fine.

It's not because the doctors are indian. It's because they use external ilizarov method. This can damage to your health, like knee issue or ballerina feet.

Imagine the 16 pins you must have in the leg. Which must be driven around the whole leg, also in front and in the back of leg, where the most nerves been.

Knee issues and ballerina foot are not caused by Ilizarov pins.  The knee issues you hear people talking about on this forum are actually caused by internal nailing of the tibia, and can be avoided by using an Ilizarov-only approach.  Ballerina foot is caused by the Achilles tendon not stretching enough, which can happen regardless of the lengthening method used.

The number of rings and pins varies depending on the patient's needs.  So you might have 16 pins through your legs, but you might not.  I only had 4 in each leg.

Thanks for informations, but  I read about a few cases and all were associated with ilizarov on tibia... hm or maybe it's becouse Indian surgeons. :)
OK.... so the best ways to omit this issues is to do internal femur?

It's true you won't have any tibia-related issues if you do femurs, but you'll have to worry about duck ass, which is the equivalent of ballerina foot but for the hamstrings.

Usually they are temporary and can be fixed by walking a lot.

Does lengthening tibias put you at higher risk than lengthening femurs?

I'm sure there are competent doctors in Germany. Ruling out an entire country seems like overkill to me. But if there have been only bad experiences in Germany, I don't blame you.
