I haven't been far enough along to say whether I have problems or not, but this was my surgeon's response when I sent him my concern of what your surgeon told you:
1. There is no long term data [of cosmetic leg lengthening] that I know of.
1a. It's not impossible, but there is no data which supports such a view at all. I haven't had any patient of mine come back to me with complaints. (It's possible that a patient with problems has chosen to go to another doctor and not come back to me, but that is unlikely because I have good long term relationships with most if not all of my patients)
1b. Cosmetic lengthening is not 40 years old so a 40 year experience in general orthopedics does not really mean much in the context of limb lengthening. Even today 90 % of general Orthopedic surgeons know little about the intricacies and power of the Ilizarov method. And 50% of even those who do it (ilizarov, not CLL) relatively regularly are not aware of the depths and intricacies of the Ilizarov method. I myself keep learning newer aspects after all these years of practicing it.
2. Eminence based medicine is no substitute for evidence based medicine. And I have little time for those who go "I think" "I believe" "I feel" without any published or presented data to support their statements.
