local Orthopaedic surgeons for distraction
« on: May 22, 2015, 06:10:40 PM »

I was wondering why people don't just travel back home after the surgery and get a local Orthopaedic surgeon to look over your condition during the distraction phase.

Surely they would know what to do if problems arise?

Probably for monetary reasons.  Although the surgery is the main expense, your local doc's bills can really add up too.

oh right well if that's the case i may opt to go down that route, mostly because my at home housing situation is a lot better than what Russia/Serbia offers, and i hear there isn't much aftercare for the cheaper doctors anyway.

is there any chance a local Orthopaedic surgeon could remove the device when it's finished, so basically i will only be in russia for one week, the rest of the time i will be at home.

Who do you think knows more about the process/device you're using - your local doctor or the doctors who focus on this surgery and been doing it for years or decades? Who do you think is better able to keep you safe if anything goes wrong? Forget the cost - if anything goes wrong, you should be with the doctor who knows what he's doing IMHO.

the two cheaper doctors don't provide much after care anyway, but local Orthopaedic surgeons can know just as much as the LL doctor, they can specialize in ilazarov as well, I know it wont be for cosmetic purposes, but i could at least ask him about it.

Also remember that every device is different. I personally wouldn't risk it, but there's a very good reason why nobody does this. Just be careful, that's all.

If you can only afford to do LL in Russia or Serbia, how can you afford your local ortho's fees?  He/she will probably charge you more than you spent on the surgery just for aftercare.

I was thinking more a general call out, i would guess it would be the same price as a months rent in the hospital, but as i said some diaries have said you never see the doctor post surgery, so i don't see the point, if you never see him, how can he help you?
