Pros
-Very experienced surgeon who really knows his device
-device is brilliant for lengthening smaller Amounts (4-5cm)
-device is minimally invasive when lengthening tibias as pins do not penetrate any muscle
-once swelling has gone down roughly 1 week post op the pain is very minimal to the point where you forget you have the device on
- device is small easily covered by looser pants
- the recommended hotel makes it easy with wheelchair access and staff helping with daily groceries
- hospital close by with weekly changing and cleaning of pins sites which is included in the price from surgery
- affordable

Cons
- inadequate information is given to you which can cause unecessary

Cons

- complications are common
- lengthening more than 5cm doesn't play well with the device
- Mis alignments are common especially the more you lengthen
- top pins tend to shifts up the more you lengthen which causes Mis alignments. Slight problems with mechanics of device

Depending in what you want or need . I think he is a good option but i would like to do LON to avoid so much time on frames. Besides what you have said thats another con for me.

The information you are given isn't the best.. I've had to spot things early and do things differently to try and avoid complications.. I've avoided so many problems just because I was given other information from a previous patient. Who knows where I'd be now if it wasn't for the other patient

I dont understand very well what you are trying to say. You think that mitkovic is a bad option or that LON is a bad option? I have been reading your diary and it seems like you have had a lot of problems since the begining of your journey.

Dr mitkovic is a good option if you have someone like me telling you what to look out for, how often to get X-rays, where to get x rays, how to stretch, how often to stretch, when to start trying to walk, how to tweak the device so you avoid pins slipping which causes mis alignments..I was lucky because the guy before told me all this.. He had an absolute nightmare of a time to say the least.. His problems could have been avoided if he was given adequate information.. My experience has been a walk in the park compared to his..

I've heard many good things about this doctor on this forum, but, according to this post,he provides no good aftercare, is it true?

There is no aftercare.. Once you leave that hospital everything is up to you.. Every time you have an x ray he will come visit you and have a quick look and tell you whether to speed up or slow down or whatever. And if u have questions u feel like u r holding him up from being somewhere else.. Basically from the moment he steps into ur hotel room you feel he wants to get out of there as quick as possible.. It can cause extreme stress at times..

Yes. He tells you to walk straight away but I didn't.. I let the swelling go down in my legs before walking.. I prob walk 10 minutes a day with walker 2 months post surgery..

My goal is 5 to 6cm on tibias and the price tag, cost of apt rental, and apparent weight bearing ability are seriously making me consider Dr Mitkovic. Would you be willing to share with us what the other patient advised you? Also whats your current condition, amount lengthening etc? out of curiosity

Herron. Yes I'd be able to give you all the information that you'd need to make the experience much smoother.. The most important thing is that you have a good set up at your hotel/ apartment.. You forget having 2 broken legs can be an absolute bitch for simple things like going to the toilet, having a shower.. If u were going to do it here I'd suggest u stay in the hotel im staying in at least until ur able to walk without walker (4 to 5 months 500 euro/month). It's wheelchair accessible, staff help u a lot. They have nice big open rooms they put u in so it feels more like a living room not a hotel room. At the moment I have 4 bottles next to my bed so I can pee in so I don't have to go to the toilet each time. I have a chair with wheels which is set to the same height as my bed and the toilet so I can literally just hope on and wheel myself to the bathroom each time. I pay hotel less than 2 euro a day to get all my groceries each day.. I can provide you information on how often to get x rays and where to get x rays.. How to avoid complications.. Best ways to stretch.

Herron I am currently still lengthening.. Will be finished lengthening on the 22nd of May for a total of 4.2cm.. Your goal of 5-6cm is fine with this device, 6 is possible however 5 is ideal due to mechanics of device..

As far as booking time until surgery what's the Dr like? Most of the LL surgeons require a certain amount of wait time from the time of date confirmation to actual surgery (or some are just booked up)?

Also if you're done by the 22nd how long have you lengthening? I ask because I've only got about 3 months for legnthening before I need to return.

I've had one complication.. Consolidation of my right fibula.. But that was because I didn't start lengthening for 2 and half weeks at the start because I kept changing my mind.. I've avoided Mia alignments by getting to the problem early. I had my second leg operated on the 14th march. So you could say by the 22nd it would have been 2 months and 1 week. But in saying that's I stopped lengthening for a week because May fibula had to be recut so u could say 4cm takes 2 months.. A good x ray of both legs cost about 50 euros. These x rays give you a cd so u can measure the gap very accurately.. and I highly suggests you'd get 1 every 3 weeks at the least.. Pretty much when I told the dr I was comin he said I would have operation within a week in which time you undergo a psychological evaluation and blood test..

When you say it s like Spain...it makes me think about moving to Another country.
Unfortunately Barcelona is the 2nd city receiving tourists in Europe (after London) and 9th all over the world.
Clinics are among the best in Europe and they were awarded among top 20 private clinics in Europe. Even the germans were amazed by the hight quality of the facilities of my New Clinic.
I haven t seen better clinics neither in Germany, nor in United Kindom...probably a few in the States.

So I will cool it down and think about it...But I don t think like moving soon!

By the way...Where are you from? Have you ever been here? As I told you before...you are invited to come whennever you have the chance. That will probably make up your mind.
