I wonder if anyone has ever tried to get back some money from the insurance?
A couple of days ago I had an appointment with a very well known (among other doctors) orthopaedic surgeon. I told him about my plans and asked him weither it's possible to get it in my home country. He just replied that it will only be done if it's something necessary. Then he added, that you could easily make a cosmetic surgery appear to be something necessary if you want.
So he basically told me that the insurance will cover some of the costs in case it's not a purly cosmetic. My legs are not exactly the same length, so this would be a reason to length, although I've never noticed it until he told me.
Has anyone tried to do get LL this way? The Dr. I've talked to said that he performs LL on a regular basis and that he uses the advanced methods such as internals or the TSF.

I think you can get away with it with some dr.'s.

Thing is most of the top dr.'s won't do it this way to my understanding. I was able to save a small fortune on aids and medicine using insurance though, so it is a valuable tool regardless. One of the PA's said "I don't know how you guys get away with it" since he had previously advised me it was impossible.

As long as the doctor makes his money, I don't think he cares whether it comes from insurance or from your pocket.


The challenge will be convincing the insurance company that lengthening ~7CM CM on both legs to correct a small leg length discrepancy was actually necessary. I don't think that most would be fooled. The big insurance companies all hire medical specialists to look for this kind of fraud. And, at the end of the day, it is insurance fraud to have them pay for your COSMETIC lengthening, unless a psychiatrist says its medically necessary for sanity, which would be very difficult.

The insurance company would label you as a liar, and then it would be much harder for you to get them to pay for things in the future, when they're actually necessary.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I think insurance fraud is a horrible idea that could hurt you a lot more than it could help you.

There is just no way that they'll believe that you need to lengthen 7CM on both legs to correct a length discrepancy that is in just one leg and shouldn't require more than 3CM of lengthening max (otherwise you'd already have known about it).


I doubt your doctor would be willing to risk his reputation, license, and freedom, just to help you unfairly pay for the surgery.

Well, yes and no. My country has a very good general health care espacially when you have a private insurance. This way, the insurance would support you if some corrections are done in the process of lengthening.
You save a lot of money and would not have to leave the country, which would be the biggest benefit. I was told that they are using a weight bearing device like the G-nail so it sound way better to me than a classic exfix.
I way just currious if anyone has done something like this before? Technically it's not cheating but getting some support from the insurance would be pretty awesome. This way you could save some ten thousand euros and would not have to leave your country. 

It would not be cheating, apparently I have two uneven legs which have to be corrected. Doing this lengtheing on one leg would be payed by insurance anyways, if I pay for the other one I'd still save a lot of money and get my legs lengthened.
I just got curious by the way the Dr. talked about this, it seemed like he has already performed it for 'cosmetic' purposes even if it's not done here officially.
