Lengthening while living at home!
« on: April 07, 2015, 05:33:55 AM »

Hi everyone! First post here, just looking for some general information...

1. Is it possible to LL while living at home after having completed the surgery abroad (RUS for example)?

 >What method of LL would be used (external)?
 >Do any Doctors specifically offer this?

I'm looking to only lengthen 4-5cm, so I'm hoping this makes the possibility slightly more feasible while also reducing complications.

Cheers!

Many doctors want you close by during the lengthening process and some won't even do surgery on you if you cannot agree to that. Most will let you return home for consolidation once the lengthening is over, however. I wouldn't lengthen at home unless the doctor was close by my house. Complications can happen suddenly and you want to be near your doctor so he can react to it swiftly.

I think Dr Betz lets you lengthen at home. I'm not sure who else, maybe someone else will chime in.

I want to LL in the hospital no offence but that would go over way better because the LL process would go better as it's way more expensive if your doing taylor frames but I think Paley is cheaper to go to.

It's easy when the hospital is two steps away from your home. You just visit it once a week to get the x-rays done and discuss things with your surgeon. Might not be the best idea though if your home is far away like... in a different country.

What about staying in the hospital (or in proximity to it) for the first 30-40 days?
I can't stay abroad for the complete lengthening phase for 6cm's, which I estimate will take about 100 days.
I have an apointment with an orthopeadic surgeon in my hometown in two days, hopefully he'll take care of me after my arriaval at home.
