I'm sorry Runt but you can't have everything even though I hate saying this and the saying itself. You can't be respected by all your friends, revover very fast, make your parents proud etc... Sometimes you just need to do some sacrifices. I understand you, I am suicidal myself but your thinking is ridiculous. Would you rather be taller and happier and be known as the LL patient, which in my opinion is no big deal... Or stay the height you are and have it at the back of your mind for the rest of your life? Basically die with it. I think you are the type who was obsessed and wanted to be popular in high school and cared so much about his dignity and what others would think of you.

You can definitely get girls at 5'5" in college. That's when girls care the least about height and getting into serious relationships with guys. So just have fun in college, and save up some money and get the surgery after you graduate. Then afterwards get a job in a new city and move on with your life!

If I were you, of course I would. I don't even have it half as bad myself and I am almost definitely going to do this surgery.

Hello Runt,

Honestly, if I were you, I'd take everyone's advice to "definitely get CLL" with a grain of salt.

The reason I say this is that while the members on this forum are obviously the greatest experts on the subjects of height and CLL, that also translates into we are an obsessive group with exaggerated views on the importance of height.

This is a life changing decision and could have life changing consequences, so I suggest that you seek outside advice, as the forum members opinions on this matter will tend to be skewed towards, "you should do CLL".

The reality is that there are hundreds of million of short men, and maybe a few hundred who are considering this surgery. Many short men hate their height, many don't care, but few would go to this extent to fix it.

I'd talk to a psychologist and seek alternate viewpoints outside of this group, as the group suffers from the groupthink dynamic.

Don't misunderstand what I'm telling you. Obviously I'm also considering this, or I wouldn't be here, but I also have enough self awareness to understand that I can't trust my own thoughts and views on height and CLL because they are extreme to say the least.

A bizarre paradox, yes.....

Hey Runt,
here is my advice: do 5cm, do it as soon as you can, with Dr. G.
Get it over with.

I normally tell everyone not to do this surgery. I did it myself and I think it fks up your mind. But in your case I make an exception.
You are young, you really are very short, you seem willing to take the pain for the gain and your parents seem to be able to pay for the surgery.

I did the surgery at the age of 45, additionally handicapped by a severe knee injury, and I walked fine after 5 months (lengthened around 5,8 cm).
You are 26 years younger, with no injury handicapping your recovery.

if you do 5cm, here is the timeline I expect from you, if you give it all that you got:

1. surgery first of may (i chose a random date) , initial distraction 1cm.
2. starting of lengthening: around 6 or 7 of may. After some days of adjusting you lengthen around 1mm per day, some days maybe slower.
3. 5cm reached: around 15-18 of june.
4. Be very active, work hard: you will be penguin-walking early september, but you will come up with some explanation.
5. By the end of september, you will still feel a bit weird when walking, but nobody else will notice.

Do it!

Cheers

OBG is one of the LL legends (at least, in my opinion - he certainly inspired me). I think everything he said is actually spot on.

The only thing I would change is that I say OP should go for 7cm...at 165, he needs all the height he can get. I did around 7cm or so, and would have done more if clicking wasn't so terribly painful towards the end.

And I also agree that LL does f*ck up your mind. Never in the past was I so obsessive about f*cking MILLIMETERS. I think the very fact that we CAN change our height (especially for those of us who have done it and have survived), and even do a second LL, makes us even more obsessive. Then, not to mention all that we sacrifice to do LL (money, pain, time, having to lie to friends, ending up with pancake butts, etc.).

But, if you're below 5'8', the height is worth it. Plain and simple. At least for me.

You're right. This site is generally biased toward pro LL because obviously the members are here for this very same reason. It would only be hypocritical to advise somebody against LL when you are planning on doing it to yourself. But like you know, we only represent a tiny fraction of the general male population who are interested in this surgery, not even 1% (a few hundreds out of the billion people who lives in western countries).... because the fact is, a lot of people, though short, go through life without caring about height or caring about it as much as we do.

That's why you can have two people living in exactly the same body and has exactly the same height. Yet one can be happy and successful while the other can suffer from a major depression. I'm not a psychologist (just a business student), but I think depression is just a state of mind, which has nothing to do with reality. Even the rich, handsome and celebrity can often have suicidal thought whereas an old ugly man living in poverty in Ethiopia can be happy.

Depression can be developed due to the individual inability to cope with life problem or is just a state of mind due nutritional deficiency or constant negative thoughts. That's why I think learning how to solve problems is one of the experience we learn as we live through life, which explains why old people tend to value life more than young adult.

I'm glad that you are seeking a second opinion. Even Warren Buffet has a team of advisors, not to mention, the worst mistake you can get is to spend a load of money for a surgery which doesn't give you the result you expected. That is buyer's remorseful and for LL the price is high. LL is a cosmetic surgery afterall. People do it for self-improvement but make sure that it is right for you.

.... to OP, I feel bad for making the harsh comment about you yesterday. It was hypercritical. Good-luck with your LL journey.

Actually, I'm on here mainly cracking jokes more than for LL. It was fun, but I think I will be out for a while. Have other priorities. Hope this will be my last message for a while. Take care.

I am 20 years old and 165cm (5'5). I've always looked very young for my age too. As a child I was happy, outgoing, with plenty of friends. I was one of the most popular kids in my school. I was a "short" kid I guess, but much closer to average (before puberty there isn't such a big height disparity).

As a teenager, people started to notice girls. I started to notice girls. Girls didn't start to notice me. Not only am I small, but I went through puberty very late. At 16 I was 5'2 and looked 10 years old. On top of that, I was bullied throughout my adolescence for being small and looking young. People started excluding me. I became heavily depressed and introverted, which contributed to my social isolation. By 17 I had no friends and only left the house to go to and from school. I looked and felt like crap.

At 18 I decided to fix my life. I started going to the gym every day. I took a year out and got a job to make money. I worked on improving myself. Long story short, I made friends and had a social life again, grew in confidence bit by bit. But I could still see that people treated me with less respect than others, took me less seriously than others etc. And women were still not into me.

I went to university at 19. By this point I was athletic and social, but still 5'5. I lost my virginity to a hot 5'1 girl and we started sleeping together regularly. In January, she wanted me to come to her hometown and meet her friends and family. I did. From then on she turned cold, and told me she wasn't looking for a relationship. For the first time ever, the following month she mentioned 3x in a group setting that she was into taller men and height is important. The next month she was in a relationship with a guy 5'10. She got drunk in February and I found out that both her friend AND her parents had made comments on my height to her. "He's a bit short isn't he?" "Imagine how small your kids would be!?" things like that. The way she said it was jokingly, but I died inside that night.

I've been struggling with suicidal thoughts and depression over the last 6 years, and just as I seem to be overcoming it I get a blow like that. Now I'm smoking weed daily and on the verge of suicide. There is no point continuing if I have to work 3x as hard as everyone else does to achieve half as much. This applies to professional, social and romantic aspects of life.

I can ask my parents for my inheritance early to get LL. However, I would only be able to lengthen 5cm, because I'd need to be fully recovered by the time I go back to university so no one finds out. But now I'm reading so many posts by people 5'7 who say their height has held them back so much over their lives and they want LL to be 5'10.

So is it worth spending $65,000 (Guichet) to go from 5'5 to 5'7? At this age, I can tell my friends it's a late growth spurt. Any later, and I don't think I'd want to deal with the social stigma of being a "LL patient". Everyone will think I'm crazy, insecure, mentally ill etc for the rest of my life. I want to remove social stigma, not add to it.

So these are my options

1) Lengthen 5cm with Guichet this summer to go from 165 to 170cm
2) Wait 2 years and lengthen 7.5cm to go to 172.5cm (and be known as an "LL patient" to everyone I know)
3) Stay at 5'5 (and probably jump in front of a train)

Thoughts?

Also my dad is 178cm, my brothers are 180cm and 182cm and my mum is 165cm. I think this contributes to my height depression. I had low growth hormone levels but now it's too late to fix it.

First off, I'm 5'7, and things have never been difficult for me due to my height. The same goes for BodyBuilder on old forum . If you work out, get broad shoulders and a big chest, you won't have any problems (you can get some huge shoulders through overhead presses). I was called short once, but it was by a tall girl (about 5'9) in 12th grade. I didn't pay any attention to her.

Second, if you are going to spend $65,000 on surgery, I'd do about 7.5 cm. 5 cm (2 inches) isn't worth $65,000. At 5'8, you really should not have any problems with height. That's an incredibly normal height that doesn't stand out as short in pretty much any western country.

Ending up with pancake butts? Is it that bad? I don't care about the pain, money, time etc... But this? I don't want to end up like Miley Cyrus. Can you get it back?

You should honestly get it back pretty fast once you can squat again. Muscle memory, my friend.
