well I wont lie. it does scare me. I have decided that 11cm is worth a decrease in ability  if it happens. however the brain is capable of many things, a person can influence the outcome.

Nope, 20cm is just nope.

As far as I know there is only one record of someone recovering completely -that is he doesn't feel any worse whatsoever after the surgery. That's Shyshy, he did 7-8CM femur with Guichet and he claims (and has more or less shown) that he is just as fast, agile and athletic as he was before the surgery.

Everyone else has had more or less permanent damage to their bodies. MDoW told me he can't run very far nowadays and his knees hurt, OBG is slower than he used to be and seemed to peak at a 70-80% recovery rate -his own words-, Sweden has often claimed his muscles have been severly damaged etc etc.

So, while I believe that a complete recovery is possible, I think it's very unlikely and we should all expect to have a weaker -if taller- body when all is said and done.

the key is this.

dwarfts are capable of lengthening 20cm because from a genetic standpoint they have long muscles on short limbs.

if you have genetically long muscles but short long bones dues to not achieving your full potential during puberty, then you are much more likely to get through this with retaining your athletic potential.

I believe this to be the case with me. but yes many people do not retain their athletic potential. statistical analysis states that it is far more likely to loose athletic potential. which is even more reason to stay in the safe zone.

I also believe that you need to go at the rate of lengthening that mimics puberty.

i am lengthening at 0.66 per day, and 0.5mm per day. i never went above this, i did 0.66 for the first 2.5cm-3cm, and then 0.5mm for the rest.

This is actually something I've wondered about because that situation applies to me. I'm roughly 5-8 inches shorter than my predicted height according to the Grey method and my growth curves. I hope that will make lengthening to 6'0+ easier for me.

Very well said! I'd love to be like ShyShy, he was my biggest inspiration to choose Dr. G. I don't regret it so far, but I can see how recovery may be harder than I thought. Just have to keep at it.

If you lengthen two segments you will lose most of your athletic abilities according to my local doctor.

This is hyperbole, you cannot gain back the same amount of athleticism. Even with one surgery you won't EVEN get a decent amount of athleticism. Trust me, I aired my concerns about this crazy surgery with an orthopaedic faculty over lunch. He has no reason to lie to me. If you  are an athlete, just don't do it.

Ask any nurse or doctor who is not in the orthopaedic Limb Lengthening business what they think. Chances are, they will tell you its crazy to do this for cosmetic purposes.

Yeah but they did study years of medical school or nursing school, followed by general surgical training and residency. They should have a better picture than a layman, though of course not the best picture.

That's true, but their knowledge would pale in comparison to that of Dr. Paley and such.

Problem is that such doctors who do LL full-time have a conflict of interest. That's not to say they are liars. They have a conflict of interest, money vs ethics & safety.

That's true, but guys like Dr. Paley make the vast majority of their money from medical cases (limb length discrepancy, deformity correction, etc). Paley does about 900 procedures a year, and I think only 50 or so are cosmetic cases. So, that isn't his main source of income. Therefore, he doesn't have a huge incentive to lie.

Very interesting that you had your surgery 12 years ago.

Could you please tell us a bit about what you went through, how you know these things and such?

Thanks.
