Trying to figure out what is causing my weird walking
« on: March 05, 2015, 03:10:52 AM »

Recovery is going pretty well, albeit a bit slow. Has anyone experienced, who has done femurs, have a slight back and forth wobble to their walking? My posture is still a bit off ie. duck ass, which might be contributing, but I'm not sure.

It's inevitable dude, and people are bound to notice and talk. I have accepted that. I am grateful that I have a promiscuous sex life, and don't stay on work sites longer than 2 weeks, so rumors and gossip are nipped in the bud before they begin to spread.

I'd have to imagine it can be fixed and is a combination of weakness and tightness.

My current state, while not bad, is certainly not acceptable for long term. I couldn't care less what others think in the interim. I went into the gym on crutches, one crutch, and now walking funny. Just looks like an injury tbh.

Hi man ,
even though you did your surgery with paley and it was a pretty successful one (from what I've read in your diary) you still didn't recover after 8 month which is pretty annoying I must say.

Do you regret you did this surgery?
if you would doing only 7CM or less , you think you would recover already?
do you still talk with paley and have you told him you didn't recover already?
because he always say it should take 6 months+- to fully recover , what do you think?

He says that you won't feel totally like yourself for one year at consultation. Had I done a more conservative I am sure I would be 100%. If in a month I am not feeling mostly normal, maybe there will be some regret, but its one of those things that once you recover from I think is sort of just behind you.

Annoyed is the right word, and envious of my LL friends who are fully recovered in a smaller time frame.

To be clear, the problems I have are mainly with tightness which leads to the posture and funny walk. I can jog, albeit with a bit of weird stride and walk, although endurance and posture isn't great. Leg workouts are improving each week.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Are there any Paley patients who lengthened the same amount as you (femurs) and have the same issue as you after so many months? I emailed Dr. Paley and he says that each person is different and some people heal faster than others or can walk faster etc... But doesn't that depend on the amount of cms you lengthen?

Don't feel bad. Making progress.

No one else has had similar issues I know. All have recovered very well, especially at lower amounts lengthened.

It would be interesting to see a video of your walking to get a better idea of what it looks like.

Over the weekend I was talking to my childhood friend(nothing to do with LL).  He had always walked kind of funny since I can remember, he calls it walking like a penguin, while all of us thought it was his "trademark swagger".
He finally decides to go see a specialist about the issue, and what he was told is that there had always been a problem with his IT band and he should have had it treated earlier.   In your case, maybe your soft tissues, specially the ones that were released, are not 100% healed yet, and therefore your body must compensate by relieving stress from the affected area.  It should heal with a little more time IMO.
