If you were the boss, who would you hire?
Assuming everything else is equal!

For the sake of argument, it is not a sales position or something where more height is probably beneficial, eg, military/police/security/bouncer.

This post saddens me a bit.

If I had a bunch of candidates, and pretty much everything else was equal (and height wasn't a benefit to the job like it would be in a sales position), I'd hire the short guy. Because chances are, they probably are used to taking so much sh*t for their height, that they work harder to prove themselves. And plus, I'd want to pay it forward and help the little guy out.

My only concern with hiring a VERY short guy would be how others in the office may treat him and if he could handle that. But I would (hopefully) know how the other guys on the team are, and provided they are generally cool, I wouldn't have any issues with hiring the very short guy.

I'd probably end up hiring the guy 5'5-5'8 (since I've been both heights), as I'd feel a camaraderie with him, I suppose.

Taller guy, because taller people are smarter and more successful. Jk, it don't matter much, though I'd be scared to hire a giant (6' 6" and up). Midget would be awesome! C'mon, who doesn't love midgets?

I would hire a short or average guy. Maybe slightly taller, at most. I think a too tall guy would be too intimidating?

So I would hire anyone from 165 to 185. In theory height shouldn't matter, though, but if all else are equal, and it comes to this, that is my preferred range. And ideally someone shorter.

Which is why my line of argument is... don't use LL to go to extreme/very tall heights. It must just backfire. (either that, or the diminished returns are not worth it)

I've already excluded the jobs where height matters most.

Lets say: engineer? what about, doctor? what about, teacher? lawyer? judge?

Or a ski accident.. is it hard to believe? I don't know everyone seems so upset and sympathetic about my situation but after so much time (1 month plus) I can tell they are getting suspicious??

I think the problem is really the bilateral damage.

but  its more odd, if you use Monegal's method. Back to work with one leg injured and another leg injured months later. :o

Most teachers are pretty capable. I think a teacher-professor has to have some sense of humor.  Being disinterested is a big no-no.
Lawyers have to be able to adapt to new cards being displayed in court, that he did not expect. Charisma is important to persuade the court.

A judge doesn't have to know the law very well but it would help. A judge need not be emotionless. He just needs to be able to give the correct verdict. In fact, it might well be better to have a compassionate judge (as opposed to mere robots applying the law). A right outcome would probably be applying somersaults to distort the law to a desired outcome (though it makes bad law).

Anyway for doctors, I think a sense of compassion is important... To me, many doctors treat patients as just a number (I was guilty of that too.....)

I feel bad when patients feel pain... but now... I "just do it"..... I become so cold to patients cries in pain.. (that's a scary fact about doctors)

I think any explanation is more believable and realistic than getting CLL. You could say that aliens abducted you and you broke your legs when they kicked you off their ship. If someone disappeared for 6 months and came back taller I doubt anyone would even think of CLL even if they were that CLL exists.

My friend when he first saw me thought I broke both legs during basketball jumping. Lol, he said, is it that bad. Hes a semi-pro player so I guess that's the way they think, but to break two legs is kinda impossible? One leg is possibly possible if you had shin splints and landed wrongly.

Short guy of course. I sympathize with him, the fact he has soldiered on and now has equal qualifications as a tall male despite experiencing height discrimination proves he has some resolve about him.

And of course I would prefer not having any giants stomping around trying to usurp me.

This is one reason why I would prefer a (short)male to be head of Human resources; I would be afraid a woman would be more inclined to reject a short or ugly male applicant due to her instincts.

I myself have never been hired for jobs where the interviewer was female, can't help but think it could be due to height. Never had problems with male interviewers. To be fair I would say the same about potential female employees and a male HR.

I happen to hire both tall guys and short guys in the past along with my colleague who is shorter than me. What I observed is tall guys were polite, disciplined and well dressed. Short guys we hired had this carefree attitude that they project. Do they really have it or they are trying to compensate for their shortcomings god knows >:(. One short guy used to play video games in his free time. Even though we were not strict, this can not be encouraged in an office environment. This guy was smart tough and used to  pick up things faster than others.

In future I would hire a mixture of tall and short and certainly some good looking females as one needs some motivation while working :D. (I had this good looking female assistant, there was pure joy of simple flirting that can make ones day. Of course I was in a steady relationship and it was a healthy flirting, nothing else)

This way short guys can learn how to deal with tall guys in real life. Actually tall guys are no different in an office environment, this is what short guys have got to learn and even tall guys can learn the potential of short guys

this, again, is bullcrap. short guys DO NOT NEED your sympathy. read up the difference between sympathy and empathy. by using sympathy you are saying that they are in a lower/very poor-thing/pariah-like position. Do note however, that many short guys (including here on the forum) are very successful in life. in fact ,almost all of them claim to have many girls chasing them, and claim to be very handsome. They very well do not need your sympathy. Empathy might be a better and more nuanced and sensitive word to use.

You know, where I work part-time, they hire only guys that are good-looking. It was so weird, LOL! Then again, female boss. I think she has the same mindset as you!

I've worked well  with  a basketballer who was about 193 cm. Very tall guys are very nice (I guess they are afraid their height is too intimidating!)

But apparently, 100% would not choose a very tall guy: something to think about for some people who wanna be 7 feet or 6'5 up. You know who you are :)

I would agree totally with your environment of mixed heights. Its a very good thing to bridge the "coldness" between a tall and short guys. Some of them might even end up good friends. It Is a very good corporate social responsibility thing.

I'ld just worry about short guys who lack confidence and as a result, do not perform comfortably with tall guys around. But I guess with a bit of support on your side, things will go well.
