How much can I broaden my shoulders?
« on: February 21, 2015, 05:06:28 PM »

My proportions look a bit strange when I add more than 8CM and I never could figure out exactly why. I used to think it was my arms lenght, and then my torso but I think I finally got it -my shoulders are too small. I look very good with longer legs and wider shoulders, which is a relief because my shoulder muscles can be built. The question is: how much?

Is it possible to add 5CM in extra width on each shoulder, or is that an unrealistic goal?

-To clarify, I feel like horizontal width is important not so much overall size.

there are deltoid muscle implants.. but they don't affect wingspan..
search dr chung in korea.. he does submuscular silicone implants (i think hes one of the few or the only one in korea who does it) but I think its silly cos' if you train it will become larger.
I think filler injection might be dangerous - risk of intravascular injection

I don't think muscle implants are my cup of tea, but thanks anyway.

You can broaden your shoulders up to 5 or more cm with weight training (gym), I know this because I love bodybuilding and shoulder width is a widely talked topic you could search it yourself if you want, but it requires lots of training and time, but forget those implants if you don't want to train to clavicle lengthening that has already showed some success.

Really?

Awesome news, I guess I should get into bodybuilding then.

How long is your neck? Wide shoulders sound appealing but not if your neck is short and stocky.

The neck doesn't matter at all, well if that counted it would stop alot of people from lifting just because their necks were thin, you can make your neck look big if you work on the trapezius. BUT attention you will look wider but your wingspan will remain unaffected but you certainly will look better if you are taller, but try to work every muscle in your body because you dont want to seem weird like having big and toned shoulders and then the rest of the body weak.

The idea is to add some width to go along with the increased height. I believe my main issue, proportions wise, is that I have a relatively small frame. Wider shoulders, as in strictly horizontaly, allows me to carry a large increase in my legs. Obviously I plan to stay fit overall, but width is a crucial part in making my proportions look good post-lenghtening.

sorry to break this to you (but i have to so its realistic) if you add muscle, it wont make your proportions looks that much better. what makes tall men look proportionate with wider shoulders is that the arm are further apart, working out cant change this (will help but wont solve the problem). Have you considered clavicle lengthening?

I have broadened my shoulders a ton by hitting the gym, so I can vouch for it.

It's doable and it's safe, much less risky than LL, but it's another financial and time expense on top of LL and your youth is limited.

True. Tibs/Femur/Arms, all that. Sucks away your vitality.
How do you know it is doable and safe? Seems..... Grosteque to say the least.

Because board certified American doctors are willing to do it and they say it's safe. It is done a lot for trauma cases. A few will do it for cosmetic purposes as well, and patients are almost always satisfied with the outcome. There's a research paper on it out there somewhere. I'm sure some google searching would turn it up.

Right I read that research paper as well, but didn't KiloKahn ask his Indian doctor about it and got a cautionary warning in response?

Dr. Parihar just said he wouldn't do it himself as it isn't his specialty. Ilizarov on te limbs and  shoulder widening are two very different procedures, technically speaking, although distraction osteogenesis is used in both.

Forearm lengthening is the procedure that should be avoided everywhere, regardless of the doctor. Of one must do it, Dr. Solomin is probably the best bet for a good outcome, as he wrote part of his Ph.D or something to that effect on forearm lengthening.

Uppland, why don't you hit the gym hard for a few months and see how your shoulders look? You will need to eat and sleep a lot to pack on serious mass though. Eat lots of rice and protein.

Thank you I will.

Is it possible to add substantial width to my shoulders by working out my muscles, will this make me noticeably much broader?

Perhaps some knowledgeable person can answer.

I used to be lazy and not workout because I wasn't doing it properly and would get muscle fatigue and tired, sometimes injured.

One day I took the time to research proper form for exercises and the adequate frequency for my body type. You can't just rely on your "bro" to teach you because you may have different physiology.(a lot of personal trainers are "personal trainers" because they can't get a real job too)

I did not get huge right away, but what ends up happening is that your natural posture improves rapidly and you look wide on your shoulders if you do the proper back and chest exercises.  I strongly believe that posture is what makes a person more attractive, and people notice right away.  It is the "air" or confidence that good posture projects.

You don't need to spend thousands of hours at the gym to give the appearance of having broad shoulders, you just need to do the proper exercises and avoid those that work against your objective.     The purpose of this exercise routine is to "fill up your jacket".
