Who would be a good doctor for external tibias price wise?
« on: February 18, 2015, 03:38:54 AM »

i only plan to do 3.6 to 4cms for my tibias. as long as i hit the 5'8 mark ill be happy (which i plan to do precice internals later in life). Im currently 5'5.

or would this be a good plan. Save up for precice and tibias, do precice first let bones heal for 9 months come back to the same doctor get nails removed and start doing external tibias?

Imo, if you're going to do 4 cm you're best off doing externals. You'll likely only have to wear them for 6 months and once your frames are removed you're done, no need to get nails removed from your bone canals later. If you plan to do both it would probably be better to do external tibias first anyway. They should make internal femurs seem easier in comparison, just based on internal femur diaries I've read.

Lots of good exfix doctors available. Start browsing the directory.  ;)

Dr Birkholtz has been a great help answering questions on this forum and TRS and Plzen seem to have had good experiences with him doing internal femurs. I'd feel comfortable going to him for tibias, but it's best to come to your decision after a one-on-one consultation or maybe even through Skype.

I spent maybe $23,000 USD in total expenses for external tibias in India. $30,000 for everything is worth it, imo. Sure there are other places that are cheaper, but if you're getting peace of mind that you're in the hands of a caring and qualified doctor, then the extra cost is worth it. I never liked the idea that one shouldn't spend over a certain amount for external only anyway, as if $30,000 for external is an outlandish idea but $30,000 for LON is perfectly reasonable. If you avoid the possibility of chronic knee pain from nail insertion by doing external only, then the price tag is extra worth it, imo.

I also want to do 4 cm. Have you considered Russia? You should be able to finish within 6 months and not have to worry about the visa, etc.

I have the same plans for my tibias, but getting a russian visa for more than 30 days seems to be very complicated

Its not complicated. You just get a Business visa from your agent which will give you 3 months or 6 months. Also, it might be better to get a "medical visa" according to the Russian court (due to some problems at Bagirov's clinic - ie, they forget (thank you Anna - the girl in-charge of the visas who is very negligent), I was charged with an immigration offence)

Yup, I did a search and yes, he has many credentials. Dr Bagirov does not appear to be in ASAMI and does not appear to have any membership except some foot and ankle society. But he does specialise in LL in Russia. And a Russian patient told me he has a good reputation.

I might do femurs with Doctor Solomin. But he does not provide support for visa and all. And you have to fly there first for a consultation. Surgery date will be arranged later, right?? (I heard he can only schedule surgery a few weeks after your consult)
